A few months ago, I applied for a Renewal Underwriter position at National General. Shortly after submitting my application, I was contacted by a recruiter and moved forward to the next step—a virtual interview with two underwriting managers. Following the interview, the recruiter informed me that she would update me after meeting with the managers.
Soon after, I noticed that the job posting was removed from the job board, which made me think a decision had been made. However, the recruiter later informed me that her meeting with the managers had been delayed. A week later, she followed up again, saying that my status was still listed as "in process."
While waiting, I continued applying to other opportunities. During that time, I noticed the same position was reposted online. A week later, the recruiter contacted me to inform me that National General had decided not to move forward with my application.
I want to clarify that I don't blame the recruiter—she remained communicative and did her best to keep me updated. However, the overall process felt disorganized and unclear. The long period of silence, only to see the job reposted and then receive a rejection, was frustrating. It gave the impression that the company either lacks structure in their hiring process or is posting roles without serious intent to fill them.
