I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Playlist
Interview
Pros:
- The company seems to have a positive internal culture with good benefits and a focus on work-life balance
- Most people I interacted with were polite and professional
- The conversation with the Director of Engineering was a highlight—very engaging and insightful
Cons:
- The initial coding challenge was described as a 20-minute task but was a complex algorithmic problem that required a full hour to solve
- After scheduling the final interviews, the recruiter was unresponsive to my requests for preparation materials. I had to follow up multiple times and only received the information late on a Saturday night for interviews starting on Monday
- The final round consisted of 5 interviews (4 technical, 1 behavioral) scheduled in long, back-to-back blocks (a 2-hour block one day, and a 3-hour block the next). This is mentally taxing for any candidate
- One of the four technical interviewers was dismissive and created a stressful environment
- After a week of silence post-interview, I received a generic, automated rejection email (the email you get when you apply to a position and your CV is not qualified for the position) on a Sunday morning. Sending rejection notices on a weekend morning is poor practice and shows a lack of consideration for the candidate's personal time
