I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Publix (Savannah, GA) in Jul 2010
Interview
I applied in person at one location and was told that another store would contact me for an interview. I came into the other location and was scoffed at by the staff saying I had to apply in person at THAT store. After asking for the store manager I was ushered into the interview.
It was professional and easy... I explained why I was excited to start a career with Publix since their values are so much better than Kroger.
I was asked how I handle customers and about my past experience in customer service.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
An unexpected question I was asked was if later down the road, if I were to get full time, would I put Publix first...
Quick and easy, didn’t really ask me many questions, other than previous experience and why I want to work for the company. They also had me demonstrate basic cake decorating skills like icing, decorations, etc.
Interview was interesting, you have to show basic skills in decorating cakes and share some previous experiences. Also they ask you about your goals and availability during the week and weekends.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Publix (Atlanta, GA) in Aug 2020
Interview
The Bakery Manager called me less than a week after I applied to set up an in person interview. The interview felt like more of a formality than anything else. He asked my previous work experience (I had no formal decorating experience, but had done it as a hobby for years). We talked for a bit about availiability, and what the job would consist of. He took me on the floor and asked me to write "Happy Birthday" and my own name in buttercream and make a buttercream rose. Although many of the people who were hired after me did not have to do any of that. He offered me the job on the spot, and I started a few days later. The first few days were the typical orientation process -- introdutions, history of the company, expectations of employess, etc. -- followed by two or three days of online modules/CBTs (computer based training). They had me on the floor helping with production and learning the techniques and products the next time I was scheduled to work.
