Hiring manager reached out to me to get to know each other. I really wasn't looking then, but what he told me about the company got me curious. Lots of EdTech companies have great intentions and small markets or MAU. He explained that Quizlet's more like YouTube, just with study materials instead of videos. 200 million study sets that 30 million students a month study from. 3 Billion study sessions so far.
So eventually I agreed to go through their interviews. First a standard phone screen. Then an onsite. This EM role required demonstrating technical depth and ability to communicate it, so they started the day having me give a talk like one would at a meetup. I really enjoyed that and it was a good sign to me about their culture.
Also got to meet several people in different functions over lunch, to get a feel for what it would be like to be part of the company. It's still <100 so you get to know everyone and know that you're in it together.
