      Customer Success Manager Interview

      Mar 2, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Samsara in Dec 2021

      Interview

The Worst Interview Process Ever! (READ TO THE END) Let me start by saying the interview process is very long and drawn out. I went through about 5 interviews (repeating myself each time) and one project assignment that wasn't even referred to or mentioned after completing and had 2 reference interviews. Let me break it down. I was approached by a Samara recruiter on linked in. I interviewed with her, then with the hiring manager, then with the manager of customer success, then with several members of the team (all individual interviews), then with the VP of customer success. In between these interviews, I was asked to make a slide deck presentation about the company as if I were presenting it to a new client. After I completed the presentation and sent it back to the hiring team, the next person I spoke with wasn't even aware that I had completed the assignment and didn't discuss it with me. I then moved on to interview with other members of the team that would be my peers and they were interviewing me as if I was going to be working up under them, no big deal but I thought it was weird. I then met with the VP of customer success and had a great interview with her. I was then asked to submit 3 references in which they called and spoke with each of them and gave them the impression that I was getting the job. All my references reported back to me the same response. But then they left me hanging afterward for 3 weeks waiting on an offer. This is what they told me after a month of being strung along by the recruiter. I was told that they had hired their last hire for the first quarter and that they were planning ahead for the next quarter's hire. (I was not told this in the beginning). This meant that I wouldn't be able to start the role until May. WOW!! Because I really wanted the role I had previously turned down a better offer from another company because they told my references I got the job. So because like I said, I really wanted to work for them, I agreed to delayed start date as long as I could have it written that I would be guaranteed to start in May. I was told that wasn't possible and on top of that because of budget concerns, they told me that the pay originally discussed was reduced by 10k. WHAT THE HECK!! So now they are asking me to start later and they are offering me less pay than what was originally discussed in the beginning of the process. Mind you, the salary provided to me was 30-40k below what glassdoor was projecting the role to be paid and below the national median for a CSM. I was also told that there wasn't any room for negotiation. In the end, I declined the offer and will never interview with them again if this is how they treat their candidates. It's a reflection of some internal issues that I might be avoiding. PLEASE BEWARE!!!

      Interview

Multiple rounds It would be weeks in between each one to so took forever, the pay was too low for requiring 6 rounds and a project company seems to have this attitude that since they are a great place to work candidates should be willing to do multiple rounds of interviews for weeks at a time with no feedback

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Samsara in Feb 2026

      Interview

The director reached out to me directly on LinkedIn and urged me to apply. The interview process was clear. This consisted of a series of two individual interviews and then a mock presentation. All went well, or so I think, I never received any feedback. My negative experience comes from the fact that I never heard from a team member, even with a rejection notice, despite multiple follow-ups.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Samsara (Toronto, ON) in May 2025

      Interview

Samsara is very efficient and doesn’t waste anyones time on scheduling and following up with interviews. Their team is clearly considerate and even has auto emails asking for feedback on their interview process. Had 5 rounds for their midmarket (scaled) CSM role. Rounds are: phone screening, hiring manager call, call with multiple hiring managers, take home test and review of said test, and final round is with executive leadership.
