      Applications Consultant Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Sovos (Wilmington, MA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter for an application developer position at this company. My resume contains over 20 years of experience in application development, testing and support of complex applications supporting derivatives, fixed income & foreign exchange trading applications. I met all the requirements for the job and then some. They asked me to take a 15 minute SAT type test, while someone(s) was watching via webcam on their side (this I found very creepy!). I haven't taken an SAT test in a very long time. I must not have done well because they told me after the test, I would not be considered at this time. That just blew me away, because I can code software in my sleep. Then it hit me, this practice is most likely a clever method of age discrimination. How many mid-career people are adept at taking time-limit SAT tests? Why the one-way web-cam monitoring? Give me advance notice of the test and I could brush up on my "test taking" skills. There is no possible way to get thru all 50 questions in 15 minutes, so as in the software development process, I took my time, understood the question, then answered. In the world of software development, if I worked with developers speeding thru coding and guessing at solutions, they wouldn't last long on my team. This company just lost out on my skills and I'll make sure my colleagues are aware of this questionable practice.
