      Interview

Met with senior manager and then department lead. Relaxed and friendly. I was there for a general interview, so they spent some time trying to understand where I would fit best - so they asked about what kind of retail work I had done in the past, what I liked doing, what kind of outdoor activities I had done and was interested in. I had experience in some areas, so there was some exploration of my depth of product knowledge - not trying to trick me or anything, just trying to understand fit, like I said. They seem to really respond well to an upbeat and can-do attitude. Not difficult if you approach it like a conversation and are excited about the company.

      Question 1

Can't quite remember all of the questions, but think that there was a tough one about a challenging customer interaction.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sports Basement (Berkeley, CA) in Jul 2016

      Interview

Two words: Bad impression I first interviewed with the person who set the meeting and another staff who took notes throughout the interview. She looked over my resume and asked a few questions about my background with athletics. I responded with my story and experiences. She seemed really bubbly and interested in what I had to say and even said I had lots of "strong" points. The person taking notes didn't ask any questions but I did have a quick friendly conversation with him before the interview. I was really sold by working with these people and for this company. BUT, the last person left me with this awful feeling. He was probably the manager or the head person. The first thing he said to me was "What are you doing here?", which I kindly responded that I was here for a job. Then he asked questions and as I was answering them, I can see his eyes wonder off and his body language telling me he didn't want to be there. Whatever the reason may be, it was clear to me that he wasn't interested. I continued on and pretended to not be effected by his body response. He then said they will call back in a week, which they NEVER did. It's long overdue by now. I didn't receive a formal rejection. I waited weeks for that call. I was sold by this company and their story and mission. But after this interview and my experience with that guy, everything else this company has to say mean nothing and hard to believe. I read other reviews on here about this company and thought maybe it was their experience and not the company, but I was wrong. They do not train you and they lack organization skills. Not to mention, I think it's RUDE when you tell someone you will call them and weeks later (almost a month now) and I am here still waiting for that call.

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Sports Basement (Campbell, CA) in May 2016

      Interview

Applied online, got a call back a few days later. Had a phone interview where we discussed availability, salary, and the job description. Had an in person interview the next week with the same person. Asked personality questions and some scenarios. Asked a lot about my views on Sports Basement. Following that, had an interview with a manager. She just got back from lunch and seemed bored and made little eye contact, she asked scenario questions and told me to give what I liked and disliked about the store. After talking with her, she went and talked with my first interviewer. Did not get offered a position because of lacking certain sports knowledge and because of previous planned vacations. They did ask to keep my application on file for other available positions in the future.

If a person was debating between two items, but was leaning more towards one that was not a good fit for what they needed, and could not be persuaded into getting the better product, what do you do?

      Interview

Sloppy. They did not remember I was coming. They scrambled to find someone to interview me. Since then it has changed, and I am not familiar with the new interview process. Two people interviewed me and they hired me on the spot.
