I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (Baton Rouge, LA) in Aug 2013
Interview
Submit application in person; get called in for interview. Most YMCA's will hire you on the spot if they want you. It is an extremely easy interview process. Dress well and show them that you are a responsible human being, and they'll give you the job. (Typically) after you get hired, you'll go through a lifeguard training class (if you're not already certified). Your employment with the Y is contingent on you passing the class. The class is typically 3-4 days. Some Y's make you pay for the class, others will take it out of your first paycheck, and a few will cover the costs for you.
Smooth and welcoming. The interaction was positive and conversation flowed nicely throughout. I felt like my answers were being listened to, and that the interviewers were very engaged with me and what I had to say.

The interview process was overall easy. You just need to have your certifications, you need to pass a breathing test, and you need to pass a swim test. Pretty easy interview.
