I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TikTok (Singapore) in Jan 2022
Interview
Overall a positive experience! Applied and the next day the recruiter based in China reached out to arrange a quick 15mins call.
- 1st interview arranged with someone based in Beijing (30mins video call)
- 2nd interview arranged with someone based in Shanghai (30mins video call)
- 3rd interview - another person based in China (30mins video call)
- 4th Interview - someone from China based in Singapore (30mins video call)
- 4 days after they sent an email stating they went with another candidate.
Correspondence was very fast, they get back after interviews within days to arrange the next one. Expect to have at least 3 to 4 rounds of interview.
The interviewers were very polite and friendly. Their questions were quite general, mostly situational scenarios to see what you will do. (Do expect to be asked if you're fluent in Chinese even if not explicitly asked for in the job description as Tik Tok after all is a China based company and all the interviewers were Chinese)

Interview
Unprofessional and Disorganized Interview Process
I was initially contacted through LinkedIn to interview for a role at Tiktok which I was excited about. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be surprisingly disorganized and unprofessional.
On the day of the interview, I received an early morning email from someone I didn’t recognize, notifying me that the interviewer couldn’t make it and asking to reschedule. The email was sent from a personal address with minimal context—no clear introduction, no explanation of their role, and no information on next steps. I followed up to clarify who was reaching out and confirm the rescheduling details. In response, I received another vague reply with an apology but no further clarity.
After trying to reach out to the original contact to verify the situation and request help with rescheduling, I was met with complete silence and never heard back. The lack of professionalism and communication felt disrespectful, and after this experience, I no longer wish to pursue opportunities with the company.
The company could benefit from improving its candidate communication and clarity in the interview process. Introducing oneself properly, using official email channels, and providing timely responses would go a long way in creating a better candidate experience.
While I understand that changes and scheduling conflicts happen, the lack of follow-up and transparency left a negative impression. Clear communication is essential, and I hope the company considers revisiting its candidate experience to ensure it reflects positively on its culture and values.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at TikTok (Bellevue, WA) in May 2024
Interview
Phone interview with HR.
First round: 30 mins with a team member.
Use 15 minutes to talk about the company and the situation of the team—only 10 minutes for questions.
Second round: 30 mins with the hiring manager.
Everything went well until it went to the second round. The interview was canceled right before the interview. They changed from Tuesday to Friday and canceled the interview on Friday before the interview...
