I applied online. I interviewed at Toast Inc in Feb 2021
Interview
An initial HR screener followed by a data project. The HR person was about 15 minutes late in calling me. She asked questions about what I know about Toast and what I'm looking for in the position. She told me that I gave her the perfect description of what service the company provides, and that my experiences & what I was looking for perfectly align with their ideal candidate. This really hyped me up, only to be followed by a rejection letter.

Interview
What a waste of time and joke of an interview process. The recruiter was initially friendly about my experience and background, then turned hostile. The HM was clearly looking for something outside the scope of my background (focused way too much on a narrow scope of what they were looking for) which had already been vetted. Put it in the job description if you are only
looking for experience in 1-2 specific things. They were rude and interrupted. A follow-up feedback survey was never sent even though one was supposed to be per their interview guidance. The HM didn’t care to ask any questions about culture (even though they send a whole packet about their culture) and hung up the call before I could even finish my final thought. Avoid like the plague.
This was a really difficult review to read, and I am so sorry that this was your experience. As a company, Toast seeks out and encourages diverse and varied opinions. We strongly believe that this will make the products and services we offer to customers more holistic and inclusive. I would really like to understand more about how we missed the mark here.
