The recruiter contacted me to set up a phone interview/ I scheduled the call using their online scheduling system, and received a confirmation email. When the time came for the interview, the interviewer did not call. She has not contacted me since, to reschedule or apologize for ghosting me.
I've read that how a company treats you during the interview process is an indicator of how they will treat you as an employee. I won't follow up with them. Additionally, I've read other reviews regarding the "Sales Engineer" position that state how low the pay is and how it is not a real sales engineer job. The recruiter probably did me a favor by not calling me.
This is not a sales engineer position. This is an entry level inside sales role. Had I been fresh out of school, I would be really excited about this position. However, the compensation they quote is 40k plus commission. Which was shocking to me. Although toptal seems like a cool company to work for and everyone was nice, it seemed like they really didn't know what sales engineers actually did.
The questions are very basic, "how would you pitch toptal?" Types of questions. If you are good with conversations nothing should catch you off guard.

I applied online on the Toptal site and was contacted about a month later requesting a short video about myself and why I would be a good fit. I sent it in and got a response 8 days later stating "I can't believe I'm just now getting back to you! For some reason, I have it done in your profile that I reached out to you to schedule a time...". she than asked for my availability for the rest of the week.. I replied with a few days and times that would work best (customary to do so) and got no response.. I followed up 2 days later and got "It looks like next week will be better. What is your availability then?"
I sent my new availability with 3 days this time, at no avail. This is supposed to be a pretty reputable tech company however, this level of unprofessionalism; I have never seen before.
I took it upon myself to Inmail the contact I obtained through my initial contacts with the recruiter on LinkedIn and got no response as well.. I laughed it off and moved on since. Thought I would share since I know I am more than qualified for this role.
I hope they get things together, otherwise they will lose a great deal of competitive talent..
