I applied through college or university. I interviewed at UC San Diego (San Diego, CA) in Feb 2018
Interview
It was a group interview style and last a day long. Students got to meet advisors and current students in their preferred labs and interviewed with them. Most interviews were one-one, but some are group style. Lunch was included and was a chance to meet current faculty and admin staffs.

Question 1
Why do you want to do a phd here, and other motivation and background questions.
The interview process was structured and thorough. It began with an initial screening where I was asked about my background, research interests, and motivations for applying to the programme. This was followed by a technical interview where I discussed my previous projects and demonstrated problem-solving abilities relevant to the PhD field. The final stage involved a panel interview, where I presented my research proposal and answered questions on its feasibility and significance. The interviewers were professional and supportive throughout, ensuring a fair and engaging process.
