      Property Adjuster Interview

      Jun 26, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Phoenix, AZ
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at USAA (Phoenix, AZ) in Jun 2016

      Interview

Applied online and received an email the following day to complete the assessment. The day after that, I received an email stating that my phone interview would be Monday morning (it was Friday at the time). The recruiter called promptly at the scheduled time and we spoke for about 30-40 minutes. Most of the conversation was about different aspects of the job and the benefits, salary, etc. More towards the end they asked a few behavioral type questions. I actually liked that this part of the interview occurred more towards the end of the time because you got more comfortable having a conversation with the person before you had to start answering your questions. As far as answers go, they're looking for you to follow the STAR method so I'd recommend preparing yourself a bit ahead of time if you can. At the end of the phone interview the recruiter said I was going to move forward and I scheduled my in-person interview for that Thursday. This interview was very similar to the phone interview. We talked a lot about the job, the training, the benefits, etc. of the position. At various times throughout the manager would ask me questions about what I thought of the expectations, environment, etc. and whether I thought I could handle it. She was more than willing to answer any questions I had along the way about the job as well, which was great. It really does feel more like you're having a conversation with someone in which you're both actively participating, rather than just being asked question after question the entire time like most interviews are. As other interviewees have stated, there was a person in front of me conducting the interview as well as someone on the phone who was listening in, taking notes, and asking additional questions if they felt the need to. At the end of my interview (which was about 45 minutes) the manager stated that I should hear from my recruiter within 5-10 business days about their decision. I received a call from my recruiter about 5 minutes later asking how I thought the interview went and then letting me know that I had received the job, contingent upon the background check, drug test, and passing of the licensing exam (which you take during the training period). I received the information on the background check that afternoon and filled it out, then got the drug test completed the next day (Friday). By Tuesday the background check was completed and the drug test results were in (with HireRight's system you can actually see the exact status of your background check, which I thought was helpful). Two days later I received a call from my recruiter stating that everything had come back clean and I was being formally offered the position. Overall I thought interviewing with USAA was one of the best interview experiences I've ever had. It was quick (the entire process took just over two weeks), the interviews felt comfortable, and the people were very friendly and willing to answer any and all questions I had. Though I haven't started yet and am nervous about the licensing exam, I'm looking forward to working for USAA. As a side-note, I've seen a lot of people comment on the fact that they feel they didn't get hired because they or their spouse/significant other aren't military. I have no military experience and do not have a spouse/significant other that does either. It doesn't seem like they rule out a candidate solely based on military status, or lack thereof. While I'm sure USAA does like to employ veterans (as most companies do), they don't seem to be discrediting candidates who don't have that experience so don't let these types of comments discourage you from applying if you aren't military either.

      Interview

My first interview was with the recruiter - The recruiter asked about my claim experience as well as my experience with claim handling software. She also asked about how much my current company allows me to pay out without manager approval. Second interview was with 2 hiring managers. Both were really great guys. Super chill and asked targeted questions regarding how I would deal with upset customers. The questions the hiring managers asked were STAR........Situation - Task - Action - Result
