Sadly hated most of the process, which was upsetting as I read such great things about Verkada being a top company. (note: my experience is my own and it may not reflect everyone)
Had a phone screen, hiring manager interview via zoom, and a third round with a senior manager via zoom.
The recruiter phone screen went well, I don't have too much of an opinion on it.
The hiring manager was very interruptive when I spoke, and not in a good interested way. It seemed like he didn't care about hearing my stories till the end, only until his attention span was done listening. I found this rude because as an interviewer, you ask me a question. And as I give you the answer, I get cut multiple times. This is also in the sales team, and I expected better listeners in sales. He left me a few minutes to ask questions but he would speed through answers as if he was in a hurry or didn't care. It also concerns me as it seems like he's physically working in the office during covid.
As much as I didn't enjoy the interview with the hiring manager, what was even more condescending was the interview with the senior manager. She was equally interruptive, and what really made me feel bad inside was when I was speaking midway, she goes on her phone with her eyes down. I was smiling and talking to myself at a camera and wasn't sure if I should stop because clearly this person isn't listening or looking up...
Then she stops scrolling, and tells me she's on the site of my ex company on her phone and told me to point out the work I contributed on the site?
And to her request, I did point it out. And then things got real awkward because I never had the chance to finish answering the interview question and wasn't sure if I should continue or wait for her next command since she just interjected.
At the end of this interview I just felt disregarded, attacked, and embarrassed.
I received a no-reply 2 sentence rejection email the next week. I emailed the recruiter for feedback but never heard back. I've been rejected by companies before, and when I make it midway into multiple rounds, I usually get a more detailed personable rejection. I can't speak for all teams, but I can say from my experience, I just felt devalued and belittled here.
It's extremely disappointing because this company seems to be doing so well with amazing founders, I had high hopes and really wanted to enjoy the process.
If you care about being treated well as a person, I'd stay away from their sales team. After my rejection I started reading more reviews here, there's a reason why so many others also had a negative experience.
If you're a current job candidate reading this, I hope you don't have to go through the same thing I did, and I wish you the best of luck.
