Founded in 1836, Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is owned by the City of Philadelphia and is the largest municipally owned gas utility in the country. PGW manages a distribution system of approximately 6,000 miles of gas mains and service pipes supplying approximately 500,000 customers. Its operations are managed by a nonprofit corporation, the Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation (PFMC).

Fred Beans entered the automotive industry in 1959 with the purchase of a service station in Yardley, PA. From that service station, Fred rented and leased vehicles, this is what introduced him into automotive sales and precursor of his future success. He ventured into dealerships with a handshake in 1972 that made him a partner in Bill Marsh Ford in Newtown, PA. Today, that same dealership is one of 30+ bearing his name.
