Pros

I’ve been proud to call American National my professional home since 2016, and my journey here has been nothing short of incredible. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in multiple roles that shaped me into the recruiter I am today. I started as a Senior Administrative Assistant, learning the ins and outs of collaboration and organizational excellence. Later, I joined the Employee Experience team, where I helped launch programs like the American National Volunteer Program and the Congrats recognition initiative, both of which reflect the company’s commitment to community and celebrating success. In 2021, I transitioned into Talent Acquisition, and it’s been an exciting chapter of helping teams grow with the right talent. What sets American National apart is its culture of collaboration and professional development. Every role I’ve held has deepened my connection to the company and strengthened my skills. If you’re looking for a place where your contributions matter and your career can flourish, American National is the place to be.

Cons

There are so many opportunities for growth that it can be exciting to decide which path to take. There’s always something new to learn! :)

Executive Leadership is Out of Touch

Pros

The grunts and lower level management are phenomenal. They care about employees as human beings and do everything within their power to help everyone succeed.

Cons

Executive leadership is out of touch. With a recent mandate to return to office they have grossly failed to acknowledge the financial, mental and emotional impact this has had on the majority of employees - even going so far as to send out a weekly newsletter with the statement that “It was all smiles at American National for the return to office.” It wasn’t. We were there. If you come to work here, just know that your managers and peers care about you. Brookfield views you as nothing more than capital.

Pros

As some of the other reviewers have said a bunch of the lower level management are friendly and try their bes.

Cons

American National was recently purchased by Brookfield and it has been going downhill past. Let's run through the big points: - Return to office is the big one. Many of us were told productivity at home exceeded all expectations, and after a period of time we were promised a hybrid schedule would be permanent. Not perfect but a compromise many could accept. Literally two weeks later they want back on their word and sent us back in full time giving no legitimate reason. Typical corporate rhetoric like "culture" was used to justify it. Well the culture is now all your employees are miserable. Fantastic job. - On top of all this they are adamant that we do more with less (literally said this) to increase profits. We are underpaid in the industry now and no raises are coming. Basically they are trying to sell us the trickle down effect here. Help us now and we will do right by you later. However, that requires trust which your employees no longer have in you. - For employee appreciation day they literally sent a snow cone truck at the end of September even to their NY based offices, which was obviously absurd. On top of all that they hyped it up all week like something positive for finally coming. Literally do nothing would have been better. - They recently announced the 2024 benefit package and across the board it is a significant step down. Once again, they tried to hype it because they added a "free" tier which is absolutely horrendous and is nothing more then catastrophe insurance. If employees want coverage similar to what we had that actually allows us to be proactive about our health- then the price has risen dramatically and even then is still worse then what we had. The cherry on the cake is that seasoned employees are leaving because many of the reasons listed above. They will literally let a quality employee walk because they refuse to offer WFH, and then will turn around and post their job offering remote work as a benefit. Stating that remote is not ideal but if they need to offer it to fill holes they will. I think we can all see there is no logic behind that.
