Cons

Under no circumstances should you consider working for this company. Aventiv serves as the parent company for JPay, AllPaid, Securus Technologies, and Securus Monitoring. The rebranding of "Aventiv" took place a few years ago in response to the negative image associated with their owner, Platinum Equity, after the acquisition of what was then known as Securus Technologies. Publicly, Securus Technologies faced criticism for questionable practices related to phone rates and fees for inmates within institutions. To address this, Platinum Equity rebranded the company as Aventiv. Currently, Aventiv is facing financial difficulties, struggling to refinance a substantial amount of debt. Despite challenges, the company insists it is "waiting for the right opportunity" to refinance. In early 2023, they underwent a significant round of layoffs, and there are concerns about the possibility of another round soon. Numerous Bloomberg articles highlight their challenges in refinancing several billion dollars of debt. The working environment is best described as toxic. Senior executives lack a full understanding of the technical aspects of individual divisions, and there is a lack of direction from senior managers. Staff members are held accountable for results without clear guidance. Performance reviews are questionable, with poor reviews leading to termination for some employees. Strikingly, reviews were allegedly altered to positive ones for certain individuals based on their position or division, allowing them to retain their roles. Gender-based pay disparities exist, with male staff being hired at higher salaries than their female supervisors. The HR team is inept, mishandling hiring practices, and displaying little regard for employees' mental health, primarily focused on protecting the company's interests. Aventiv faces several pending EEOC complaints and lawsuits, and the justifiability of these claims remains to be seen. In summary, this is a toxic and failing company, and it is strongly advised to avoid it at all costs.

Aventiv Technologies Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience at Aventiv. We value all feedback so we can continuously improve the associate experience. Providing our customers and consumers with affordable, secure technology and the digital infrastructure to connect incarcerated individuals with their friends and family remains our priority. We tailor our services based on the requirements of each correctional facility, offering phone and video calling services, text connections, and access to education, training, and reentry support. These services encourage better outcomes for families and communities when incarcerated individuals come home. Just as we support our customers and consumers, we are committed to ensuring a positive work experience for all associates, whether they are part of Aventiv or our family of brands. That commitment includes maintaining financial transparency and stability within our organization, which is healthy and profitable. Like many private equity-owned businesses, the extraordinary and unprecedented increase in interest rates in the last four years has affected our debt. We are addressing that proactively to maintain the delivery of the products and services our customers and consumers need. Similarly, we offer a competitive pay philosophy that requires us to review our roles regularly against industry benchmarks. Our associates also engage in a regular performance review cycle to connect their contributions to enterprise goals and offer constructive feedback on how they can grow and develop with us. That feedback cycle is part of the two-way communication we foster with associates. They have access to several channels to share topics that they feel require leadership attention. Our organization has established policies and procedures to address EEOC-related matters, and we are dedicated to investigating and resolving any incidents promptly. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with dignity and fairness.

Pros

Some great colleagues who work so hard daily to get an enormous amount of work done.

Cons

The worst "leadership" because they consistently make stupid decisions. Want an example? They gutted the project management team and the following week tried to rehire some of them bec they figured out too late they need people to do the work. Duhh... To say the employees are overworked is an understatement. To say they are ridiculously underpaid for all they do is an even worse truth. Many positions are 20K below industry standard. Another red flag -there is a consistent turn-over of field-service personnel as they cannot get people to stay, especially when they increase responsibility but not pay. Also, it's never a good sign when the CFO jumps ship. And get this - they're currently trying to dig themselves out of debt by being sold. Folks, do yourself a favor and move on to the next company. That 1-star rating is there only because there's no option to give a 0 or less.

Pros

* The mission of the company is admirable -- helping families with members behind bars stay connected and providing technologies that help agencies offer their residents the opportunity to better themselves and prepare for a smoother return to their communities after serving their time. * Good people working hard to get things done -- anyone outside of the "leadership" group -- those without the title of Director, Sr. Director, VP, EVP, CPO/CRO, CTO,COO, CEO,etc -- the folks outside of that leadership are, with some exceptions, knowledgeable and could get things accomplished if leadership group would actually make decisions that would product revenue instead of making decisions that waste limited resources.

Cons

* Leadership group -- they lie to employees when they even bother to talk to them. They do NOT think through all the potential implications of the decisions they're making and most have very little experience in the areas they are trying to branch into; additionally, they are allowing their positive revenue-generating products suffer benign neglect while they try to chase products that will always be net losers for the company. As a result of three + years of chasing unicorns (media, post incarceration, education) they are laying off hundreds of workers, not paying their bills, losing customers and desperately trying to refinance loans they otherwise cannot pay. * Lack of identified priorities - given the current limited resources, projects that either, generate net positive revenue and/or could allow for expanded net positive revenue should be the priority.
