Pros

- I am not sure there are any. It used to be the employees but that is no longer existent due to the 100% turnover. - I guess opportunity since all of the turnover over the years

Cons

- No perks such as phone. Compensation is below other public accounting firms. No bonus in Chicago market. - Management is so poor and consistently receives low reviews. Most partners would not be able to manage a deli. - No work/life balance. Getting jobs done according to the partner's time is most important. - One partner has direct influence on compensation. Only increases salaries for those who suck up to him. Very unethical. - Partners expect lower level employees to bring in business when they do not contribute at all.

Pros

Great internal and external training, opportunity for advancement, exposure to a large variety of industries, good PTO, and opportunity to work on any and every kind of tax return.

Cons

They claim to be flexible, yet they yell at you for walking in 30 minutes late one morning after you have worked 14 straight days and until the early hours of the morning on most of those nights, but you will never get a "thank you for your hard work." They recruit you on a personal level and tell you that you can work at any of their offices and that you aren't just a "number" like at a larger firm; what a lie. You can only go to an office elsewhere if they need the bodies, and they do not care about you personally, you ARE JUST A NUMBER pushing out numbers for them. For being such a large national firm, you would think they could have a lot more revenue and employees, but they do not. It is very disappointing. No pay raise with promotions. You get new responsibilities and a title change but have to wait until the annual compensation adjustment, which isn't that much even for the best performing employees.

Pros

Your experience at BKD is/will be completely dependent on your manager/coach. If you are in the good books of your coach, you will tend to have flexibility, and an advocate; and vice versa. The Dallas office is nice. Free snacks, coffee, tea, sodas, and juice offered every day. The administrative staff is very friendly. Co-workers are helpful if they don't see you as a threat.

Cons

1. Managers have their favorites. 2. Very very conservative, one of the partners even told me that to my face when I made some suggestions. 3. Sorry ladies, no short sleeves even in scorching Dallas summer weather (I told you they are conservative) 4. Every single day you have to respond to admin if you are working from the office or not, and where you are, and when you will be returning because the MP wants it so (it makes you feel like a teenager under curfew). 5. Pay is HORRIBLE 6. Turnover has been so high mostly due to pay. In one department, 4 people left within 4 weeks of each other, all were Seniors, Managers, and Senior Manager. 7. Very huge and super heavy laptops. The kind of laptops meant and recommended by Dell for stationary use, not for travel. Dell doesn't even manufacture those laptops anymore so you will be getting an old used one as a new hire. Ladies, forget about carrying a nice tote handbag as the laptop won't fit in it, unless you want to carry a 10 lb laptop plus your ladies bag. It seems like only the Directors and up get the 14 inch laptop. It is crazy. 8. One would ask why I'm I still here with all these cons, and that is because I want to have 2 years experience on my resume...almost there. And can't wait for the day I hand in my resignation, unless I see some of these cons changed for the better, which is a tall order for a conservative company like BKD. Honestly, I have never worked for a conservative company like this one, and I have worked for very big reputable companies.
