Pros

Their focus and mission is in energy efficiency. Their main Portland office is beautiful and a great LEED certified building right downtown Portland. Majority of the employees are from PECI and Fluid (both acquired by CLEAResult) and for the most part are awesome, intelligent people that have very similar ethos as each other.

Cons

Through acquisition, CR must have 3500 employees now and is in a fast moving, growing and expanding energy efficiency business. But, their pay is poor; much like a non-profit would pay their employees except they are NOT a non-profit. Think the benefits make up for low pay? Nope. However, they load the work up on you and don't pay a dime more for it. I was "promoted" once and got a 3% raise (that includes cost of living as they don't give COL raises while the "average" yearly raise was 2.3%---gee wow, thanks...) while increasing my hours worked to about 15-20 per month. Then I got additional "responsibilities" handed to me which increased my workload and scope, adding an additional 15-20 hours per month without any extra pay. So I went from 40 hours per week up to 50+ hours per week, much more responsibility, increased stress for basically $3,000 dollars per year. After working those hours for months and expecting a raise or promotion, they again expected me to take on more workload. It's not the managers or directors faults, they're hands are strapped by greedy corporate executives. Enough is enough. I see too many really good, hard working people get the shaft and a bunch of lazy knuckleheads just skate by here. There is no reward for hard or good work and there has been a mass exodus of employees since CLEAResult acquired PECI in 2014. In fact, if you interview, ask blunty, "I've heard you have exceptionally high turnover, why is that or what are you doing about it?" Their leadership is in Austin, TX and is clueless on the Portland culture and to be honest, their HR staff is just poor at corporate and they cleaned house on all the ones left in Portland. I have never seen a more incompetent group of HR professionals (I shouldn't even use that word, CLEARLY not professional) that care as little as possible about the employees. BEWARE all... HR at CLEAResult is looking out for themselves and the company. They are not looking out for the employee and not only are conniving and backstabbing, but they create a culture of fear with limited to no enjoyment. It's like they all worked at the DMV or a call center with gray carpet and white walls...blah! I feel bad for anyone left at this company. Great people still there (I think!) and I really feel bad for the recruiters that have to sucker in replacements for all the open positions. A friend called me about 6 months ago and said "I know you worked at CLEAResult, can you put a good word in for me there?" And I told him, "I'll do one better! I'll tell them you're a murderer who stashed his grandparents body's up in the attic and is a kleptomanic so they won't hire you (well, they're desperate, maybe they would) and save you the grief of being miserable." In a culture of creative, environmentally focused, mission driven employees, this is one of the least fun or spontaneous companies I have ever worked at or even seen. My friends have kegerators at their offices and CLEAResult created a "no alcohol" on premise policy after I had left; like everyone is a child and in high school. What a joke! I laughed so hard when I heard this! This company has their eyes on the future, their feet in the past, and their head in their derrière.

You’re right about the awesome, intelligent, hardworking people at CLEAResult. Thank you for your frank comments. I am disappointed to hear your experience did not match our intention to create a positive work environment where employees thrive. It is also unfortunate that the efforts of our HR department did not meet your expectations. As our company matures, we continually reassess the employee experience and your feedback informs the improvements we’re making.

Pros

Not many.... Coworkers are fun, they have direct deposit, and if you like working a bunch of hours and being compensated below the industry average... This is the place for you.

Cons

Run away and avoid like the plague! CLEAResult is always looking for ways to reduce employee benefits and compensation. Don't trust an offer letter...HR has publicly stated offer letters are not valid and the CLEResult has the right to change employee benefits and compensation at any time. HR is horrible and they don't notify employees of benefited or compensation changes until they already happened. If an employee brings up an issue, HR's answer is you should be grateful you have a job. Here is a list of recent ways employees were given the shaft. 1. In 2015, CLEAResult hit it's EBITA goal so employee bonuses where funded for divisions that reached their goal. Employees where kept in the dark on when bonuses and how much would be paid. A week before bonuses employees received an email with bonus amounts. Bonuses were one fourth of what employees where told was their bonus target in their offer letters. When employees ask HR and management on how bonuses were calculated their response is "Offer letters are not valid and CLEAResult has the right to modify all employee compensation" and "We don't know how they were calculated. Upper management and the Board determined the bonus amount and did not take into account employee targets." 2. The end of 2015 and beginning of 2016, CLEAResult changed many employees from salary to hourly without notifying the employees. Employees found out they were paid hourly on their pay statement. Also CLEAResult changed the bonus plan for these employees so they are no longer eligible for bonuses. HR and management blamed each other for not notifying emoloyees. 3. At the beginning of 2015 CLEAResult changed the vacation policy so employees could roll over vacation time to the next year. In December 2015, CLEAResult rolled out a new employee vacation policy that does not allow employees to roll over vacation. Also, employees no longer accruing vacation time... Meaning CLEAResult will not pay out vacation if an employee quits or is terminated. They did this so they could write off the liability on the books. They told employees they would loose any unused vacation time at the end of December 2015. Most employees were rolling a week or more of vacation and did not have time to use it. HR response was "the company has the right to change up the vacation policy at any time." I can list many other changes... Needless to say, I plan on switching employers at the earliest opportunity!

I can't verify the accuracy of all these statements, but I can say that CLEAResult made some missteps with employee communications on benefits that were regrettable. Since then, our executives have worked to improve transparency and if you're still a current employee, I'm sure you've seen some pleasant changes. Thank you for your honest feedback.

Pros

Amidst the thousand(s) who now work there, there are some quality, strategic people with high integrity and desire to work hard but also have a life. Very few live in Austin (HQ) and most come from the companies they've gobbled up.

Cons

Most of the quality people have or will be leaving. They have done a disastrous job of integrating their new companies. Instead of taking the time to understand the quality and innovation they've purchased and the talent of the staff they've acquired, they strong arm their (dysfunctional, nonstrategic, unstructured) way of doing business on the newly acquired companies, spend no time understanding the talent they've purchased and shove people to wherever is easiest or they have a hole (with nepotism and sexism as a background theme), regardless of skill, experience or employee interest. There has been SO MUCH WASTE of amazing talent in their acquisitions. An organizational design and effectiveness consultant would cringe to witness the precisely opposite behaviors this company has exhibited when acquiring and growing. 4+ companies in one year. There has been little effort to strategically define or track metrics the type of metrics that will drive actual acquisition success. Shocking. Sad. Exhausting.

While difficult to read, we appreciate the thoughtful way you’ve articulated these issues. We regret that this has been your experience. Every bit of feedback human resources receives allows us to create a more positive experience for new employees and improve the work environment for existing employees. Our integration process now includes ongoing executive roundtables, feedback sessions from employees, feedback surveys that are reviewed and actioned both by regional management and national leadership. Because of what we’ve learned, our most recent acquisition has been smooth and heartening. At CLEAResult, we are resolute in our belief that we can create a great place to work and serve clients with the mission of changing the way people use energy.
