Toxic workplace

Pros

Some of the perks are nice - holiday pay, PTO, benefits, summer Fridays.

Cons

Chamberlain claims it is in a "transformation". Over my tenure at this company, they have re-organized EVERY. YEAR; and the re-orgs included mass layoffs. There has been so much churn that historical knowledge has been lost. This also makes it impossible for current employees to get promotions or grow within the company. Despite the fake “positive posts”, this is a very toxic work environment with embarrassing diversity. Slashed budgets, not giving promotions, not hiring to full capacity, setting un-attainable goals – has resulted in employee burnout, in-fighting and low morale. There is a culture at this organization that the marketing department isn’t respected or valued. It is treated like order takers with C-Suite micromanaging everything. There is no strategic or brand vision in place, and the department as a result is spread too thin with “everything” being a priority. The marketing department was just GUTTED as they are taking the downfall for the company’s failure to sell “me too” products with no differentiation. The replacements have an uphill battle that will also require a culture shift. If you want to take on a challenge, this would be the company for you.

Pros

Above average pay for non-tech jobs, summer Fridays

Cons

The leadership team here is trying to do too many things all at once and failing at basic execution and follow-through. For example, the company made a huge deal about launching quarterly OKRs for everyone but they have barely made a dent in our approach to work. OKRs were created to help everyone stick to their goals but senior leadership changes their mind constantly and everyone else is just running around trying to pivot and catch up. Blackstone, the PE firm that now owns CG, was promised a huge windfall with their purchase but our sales numbers have been very low this year. Everyone is scrambling to try to keep up with the ridiculous expectations. There is a great deal of conflict amongst senior leaders and it creates a toxic work culture that does not promote collaboration or innovation. The only way to get ahead is to take credit for other's work, back-stab, and loudly toot your own horn to the executives. There is no clear understanding of roles and responsibilities at this organization so everyone is fighting to be heard and seen. In addition, the 3 day a week return to office was unnecessary and incredibly annoying. Jeff Meredith has hinted at increasing this to 5 days a week next year.

Pros

-great benefits & wellness program -very process oriented -market leader in their industry with strong brand recognition -nice corporate office with gym and cafeteria -The CEO is great, but wondering if she really knows what is going on with the current state of the company?

Cons

This used to be a company that cared about their employees and didn't see their employees as numbers. It was an amazing company to work for and promoted from within. Ever since the new President, Jeff Meredith, came on board, there has been a huge culture shift and it is NOT for the better. During COVID the company said they would not lay off anyone, but November 2020 they "reorganized" and let go of half of the sales team based off a personality test and wanting to add more diversity to the sales team. The company preaches about inclusiveness and diversity, however, they let go of many of the women sales staff and demoted the only 2 female sales manager in the company. Many of the new hires are again middle-aged, white men. There is also no upward growth internally anymore. Many new employees have been hired externally and the hiring process is now next to impossible with ridiculous case studies of 3 questions that they expect you to have a 50+ power point with analytical data in order to be considered for a position within the company. This company is also pretending to be a big IoT company and is pouring all its energy and resources into their software platforms, which is great for the future, but they are lacking on coming out with quality hardware that works well and is what the market actually wants. Pro installers don't want to install locks and cameras and the company keeps trying to shove these add on products down customers' throats. The customer programs have also all been taken away. No promotions or help on pricing when a customer is up against competition or has a big builder job. This company used to be customer-forward and saw our customers as partners. Now LiftMaster is using it's market-leader position to force customers into products and programs that don't benefit them at all. Not sure if the CEO and the family who owns the business is really seeing what is happening to the company because profits are up from cutting travel and promotional budgets and there is still back log from COVID. The company is losing employees left and right and these changes seem to be pointing toward the company possibly going public (just a speculation. this has not been announced).
