Pros

Pays a living wage for your location.

Cons

The top leadership at the company (almost all white cis-het men) have repeatedly prioritized their own comfort, even in very low-stakes situations. When asked for a transparent explanation, the responses are incoherent claims of objectivity, when there is empirical evidence that the decisions were not even well-researched. When one white male leader makes a mistake, the white male CEO backs them, and publicly admonishes employees for calling out the biased behavior. All biased decisions are doubled-down upon. Previous wins for vulnerable employees are constantly "re-evaluated." The leaders handing down decisions is called "discussion," even though anyone who responds to their declarations is routinely ignored. If you are not a white cis-het man, look elsewhere.

Pros

Working from home, however that's most companies in today's world.

Cons

- They claim to want to help you excel in your career, but when it comes down to it, they'd rather hire outside the company. - Management lies directly to your face and when you call them out, you get answers like "oh, I forgot you can see that stuff" or "I'll get back to you on that." - Everyone I worked with is extremely unhappy and the moral has gone down significantly since I started working there. - They want to rapidly grow the company causing the company to lose its culture, have a high turnaround when it comes to staff, and preventing people from getting raises/promotions. - After talking with my team, we found out that although they claim to pay based on where you live, people living in cheaper areas were making a good deal more than staff who had been there a long time even though career backgrounds were very similar. - People in management roles are selfish and don't help develop their direct reports to excel in their careers. - The way they treat their employees is extremely unfortunate. - You may work an elevated role to in return not be paid for your time doing that role.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are certainly disappointed that this was your experience at CircleCI. Growing a company unfortunately does come with bumps in the road and feedback like this helps us to direct our efforts. Currently, the People team is working through the development of proper performance review cycles, wellness incentives, and overall morale in tandem with our rapid growth. This includes ways to properly develop our internal talent and create the best people managers there are. If you do have any additional feedback specific to your experience you'd like to share, please feel free to reach out to me at chris.stpierre@circleci.com and thank you again for your time. Pros

- The people are smart, capable, considerate, and want to solve a real problem. - Remote work is encouraged. - The space is becoming more and more important to large organizations. - I've personally, always felt supported by management (this is predicated on your team)

Cons

- Apparently, a lot of your success at CircleCI is dictated by the team that you are on. Some managers aren't as willing to develop internally. - Competing priorities are causing real problems for the business. I.e. salespeople don't care about retention so they will burn a deal pushing towards growth but that is in direct opposition to my priority on the CSM team. Doesn't seem sustainable. - There is no product vision. We basically check boxes to find feature parity with the other competitors but it's reactive. While I've found our product team is willing to talk with customers, the follow through on implementing the feedback (or even closing the feedback loop) is not a strength at the moment. - This is a very challenging product to sell/support. A lot of SRE's don't see the value in changing their CI/CD practices without a significant amount of data to back up how this will fundamentally help their bottom line. We haven't been able to effectively communicate this via our marketing strategy. - Lack of transparency. We get a lot of emails from various departments providing updates but the numbers don't seem rooted in reality. (i.e. # of SQLs goes up but revenue doesn't change).

Good morning, and thank you for taking time to leave your thoughts! We appreciate the feedback on all fronts! Firstly, thank you for echoing the positive experiences you had at CircleCI. Though we know it is never perfect, we have been doing a lot more work on manager development and how to make sure teams feel supported, motivated, and inspired. On the part around product vision and customer focus, thank you for outlining specifically where you see room for improvement. These types of reviews make it easier for us as a team to get the feedback and information to the appropriate people and take action. This year CircleCI will remain heavily focused on building customer relationships (both old and new) and really ensuring that we are growing and successful in the space both internally and externally. I think this work will put us on the path you're describing around having a customer focus and product vision, which should go hand-in-hand with quantifiable targets like "hitting revenue". Thank you again for your review! Chris St. Pierre Senior Manager, Recruiting Operations
