A company past its prime

Pros

CEO is based in Belgium and is a good leader that genuinely cares about his people and is trying to bring European values like work life balance to the company. It can feel like a family here as the teams are small. They have been a pioneer in remote work and are offering hybrid and remote schedules even more now.

Cons

CTG is an old school company that is struggling to appear as innovative as other IT companies. They have a very unimaginative and reactive approach to product development and Human Resources, and can’t seem to figure out who they want to be. Their benefits and compensation plans are fairly basic compared to similar firms. Their overall HR mentality is very much stuck in their ribbon cutting era. Most staff do not receive regular raises and their starting PTO is your standard two weeks with a painfully slow accrual rate and a low capped amount even after more tenure. You have to “buy” extra vacation and they sell this to employees as a benefit. They do not offer 401K matching and by all indications will not in the foreseeable future. There’s a lot of nepotism since most of the leaders have been with the company for many years. When you work here you will see the same people promoted over and over while most are stuck in the same position for years. And there is absolutely no diversity in their overhead staff. They use “inclusion” as a buzzword but there are few if any BIPOC people in management and zero in senior leadership. Being a fixture in the Buffalo community I expected to see a statement on their social about the tragedy that happened not too far from their HQ, but radio silence. Similar silence on Pride month, and other cultural holidays with the exception of a few generic inclusion posts. The sad reality is that few POC and LGTBQ people are able to achieve meaningful progress in their careers here. I believe their European operations are a bit better at this. And there’s no employee engagement for teams outside of the HQ. Best Place to Work? They may have the badge but not the practices to support this distinction. Hopefully new HR leadership will bring them into 2022.

We appreciate the time you took to provide such thoughtful feedback. We believe that our CEO and leadership team's commitment to practices that strengthen our culture and contribute to achieving Great Place to Work certification year after year perpetuates the family-based culture you experienced. As a GPTW company, we are committed to continuously seeking and reviewing the input of our employees across the organization from many sources to ensure we receive the most accurate representation –GPTW surveys, internal surveys, Glassdoor reviews, exit and new hire surveys, and more. Employee insight is critical in CTG's innovation and growth as an employer and provider of leading digital IT services and solutions. It, therefore, is of the highest importance to our HR and leadership teams. Our HR teams use the insight gained from employee feedback to develop programs that support our people-focused culture and enact programs in our employees' best interest. We strategically choose program initiatives and invest in those that benefit our employees while balancing our financial responsibility to our shareholders. For example, we know that the cost of benefits for our employees is of the utmost importance, so our leadership team made financial decisions that allowed CTG to reduce employee benefit costs significantly three years in a row – 2020, 2021, and 2022. At CTG, our first core value is respect. That core value is applied in many ways, not the least in addressing the areas of diversity and equal opportunity. We are sorry that you found this an area to be lacking. We have found, as recently as our most recent GPTW survey, that most of our employees disagree. Statements related to fair and equitable treatment of employees regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender, and age received the highest ratings. Finally, you noted a few instances where you felt we remained silent. We were neither silent nor unengaged in either instance. In May of 2022, we chose to keep our communication and donation efforts focused where we felt that they were most needed and appropriate – internally, on our employees and in our headquarters community. We also kicked off our annual Pride month recognizations across our global social media channels on June 1. We encourage you to visit any of our social media channels this month. In summary, 'CTG's Core Values and culture are built upon respect, support, and open, two-way communication. We are sorry that you have had a different experience. Your CTG HR and leadership team would welcome the opportunity to talk through these or any other issues you have.

At CTG, we believe people are our business, so we are disappointed to hear you feel differently. Since many of our employees work onsite at a client location, we understand communication can be challenging. As such, we utilize a variety of communication vehicles to keep employees up to date with CTG news, such as: • town hall conference calls led by our CEO, Filip Gydé, • an internally produced, semi-annual newsletter mailed to each employees home, • social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn (be sure to connect with us!), and of course • direct communication between CTG managers and employees Our communication efforts support our mission to provide real business value for our clients while also creating professional opportunities for our employees and value for our shareholders. Our intention is for all employees to understand they are valued members of our CTG team; we could not fulfill our clients’ needs without the unique skillsets our employees offer. When employees fulfill their assignments, our managers and recruiters work diligently to identify other open opportunities that align with the employees’ skillsets. Redeployment is an important initiative for us and we encourage employees to reach out to their manager or recruiter to discuss interests and future opportunities.

Pros

Remote work, pays well, plenty of opportunity for advancement

Cons

At times we deal with too many contracts at one time, could provide better benefits like 401k matching or less costly health insurance

Pros

They do most things through email, which is great if you're not a 'phone person'.

Cons

Benefits package is the worst I've seen (would cost me about 1/3 of my take-home pay to cover myself and my medical needs). You are basically paying out of pocket for everything so unless you are perfectly healthy, you are immediately thrown back under poverty line. Christmas... not paid, Thanksgiving... not paid, New Years... not paid You are forced to be out of work and not get paid. 401k, no matching No Vacation No sick time (unless you're located in a state that mandates it). You hear all about how well the company is doing and how they are expanding thanks to the money they make off of you. You are just a pawn to earn them money but don't expect the company to care about you. They get paid for every hour you work hard and offer absolutely nothing in return.

Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback. It’s clear you felt our benefits package did not meet your needs. Varying benefit and time off packages are offered to serve the diverse needs of our employees. We agree that CTG’s success begins and ends with our employees; they are the lifeblood of the company. In return for their invaluable contributions to CTG, the company aims to provide a Great Place to Work with a positive, engaging, and supportive work environment. We encourage any employee who is unhappy in their role to discuss their concerns with their manager.

Pros

I have a 401K now

Cons

No matching of the 401k No opportunity for advancement No reviews for raises As Colorado has increased the minimum wage, the employees have not seen a raise in pay to keep with the cost of living increase created by increased minimum wage Hourly employees are not provided dental insurance. Hourly employees have the lowest possible coverage for health insurance Concerns raised regarding pay or better benefits are not considered PTO does not increase with your time with the company. After more than 5 years with the company, I would expect to have had a raise more than once We are all very expendable

We appreciate the time you took to send your thoughts. You mentioned the surveys we send out, so we’d like to take this opportunity to highlight our Great Place to Work focus group that has been in place for the past two years. This focus group consists of employees from various departments and lines of business within CTG. Its goal is to analyze the results of our annual Great Place to Work survey and identify key areas of opportunity we can improve upon. The group provides actionable ideas and constructive criticism to our leadership team. The feedback from this focus group has been invaluable, as it provides a perspective that represents our employee population. Several topics the focus group is currently discussing echo ones you listed, such as 401(k), PTO, and salary increases. Employees with suggestions for improvement are encouraged to discuss their ideas with their manager or a member of our leadership team.
