Pros

Fantastic variety of work. Perfectly set up to collaborate between offices and disciplines. The best in every field on your team.

Cons

They laid off scores of people in different offices across the country in a Zoom meeting lasting just under five minutes. I wasn’t surprised since they are a firm who historically hires when busy and jettisons staff when the going gets tough. It’s their approach to the cyclic nature of the industry. I was very surprised by the impersonal purge where all were told of the realignment of workload to staffing. I realize laying people off is about the most awful task imaginable. But for a firm professing to work according to the Golden Rule this was a huge misstep. I can’t imagine anyone being able to honestly say this is how they would like to be treated. For an overall great firm where I was hoping to spend the rest of my career, this was an incredible disappointment. I truly thought they were better than this. It makes me so sad to realize they are not. Everyone I worked with there gave their all and then some; but, a five minute personal meeting or call was too much to ask of the President. It was a bitter disappointment. I expected more from a firm this good.

Thank you for your heartfelt feedback. Letting people go during this already difficult time was not an easy decision to make for so many reasons, but mainly because Cushing Terrell team members are like family. Under normal circumstances, sharing news like this would happen in person, but with the majority of our team working from home during the pandemic, communicating with each other virtually has become a necessary reality. We truly care about each individual who had to receive this news and hope this shows in the departure package provided, the support you will receive from both leadership and team members as this process continues, and our wish that you might join us again when the firm’s workload rebounds. We hear you and will give full consideration to the advice you have expressed. If you would like to reach out to your HR contact, we will also make sure you have the opportunity to speak directly with Greg.

Pros

Great people to interact with

Cons

No growth opportunities. If you are interested in tiny tenant improvements and grocery store renovations. This is your place if you desire to do more keep looking. You will be on an island and very little support outside.

Thank you for your candid feedback. The cons you mention have been shared with CTA/Cushing Terrell leadership. We definitely want team members to feel they can grow with the company and that they have opportunities for development. Thus, if this is something we need to work on, we’ll look at ways to address the issue. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to provide a review.

Pros

CTA has a very laid back and entrepenaurial style. They are very focused on the client and giving them the best value for their money. CTA is a great place for young architects and engineers to start out. Many people start here and stay here throughout their careers. CTA is overall a great place to work especially for Arch. and Eng. professionals. CTA has an excellent benefits package along with 401k retirment plan that matches up to 6%. CTA works on a variety of projects from 9 vertical market sectors. CTA has been in business since 1938 and has an outstanding reputation and many repeat clients. We did win top ten best A/E firms to work for in a nationwide survey.

Cons

Compensation. Being a company headquartered in Montana has its downfalls, we have a low cost of living and low wage scale. CTA has trouble recruiting top talent from large markets, even though we are a fairly large company, largely because of compensation. CTA is very entrepenaurial, which is good and bad. Sometimes people that need to be mentored and trained are not given enough attention. CTA seems to have a learn how to do it yourself attitude. Which is good to a a certain extent, but can lead to employees feeling like they are on an island by themselves. CTA should implement changes in compensation and mentorship.
