Pros

-Health Benefits -Work/Life balance -Wounded vets can sleep at work

Cons

Poor management, poor employee morale, illegal things such as harassment is tolerated at this workplace. Training is the worst, I literally read a book for my first six months there. Long-time employees refuse to pass on knowledge. Technical skills are focused on too much with lack of focus on communication skills, leadership, and critical thinking; I would not recommend this organization to anyone!

Pros

The benefits are terrific. You get ten paid holidays per year, and 13 days each of annual leave and sick leave to start. The health insurance is good, and if you can make a career of it, the retirement benefits are excellent. Teleworking is encouraged. And if you do good work, you will be afforded considerable flexibility in how you go about your business.

Cons

There is very little opportunity for advancement. And Management makes extremely little effort to recognize and reward superior performance. The work environment can be quite stressful at times, as bureaucratic red tape and the latest managerial fads, buzz words and bells and whistles tend to take precedence over the actual work.

Pros

Job security, health plans, training opportunities

Cons

With the recent RTO, which leadership has frustratingly referred to as "return to work," this agency no longer offers anything special in terms of compensation or benefits. Ms. Davis insists that DFAS is in line with other organizations with a 4 day per pay period RTO, but DFAS should be striving to recruit and retain the best. A blanket RTO does not make sense when you have everyone from accountants to software developers at work. There is a lot of worker alienation due to the RTO call. When the IT industry picks up again, there will be a mass exodus of any qualified technical workers. Ms. Davis also said that the hybrid work environment is on par with the private industry, but more and more organizations are moving towards a wfh model for software developers and others who have no need to be in office. The RTO call is bad for morale, the environment, and recruitment/retention of exceptional workers. In addition, the SSP was not implemented at DFAS, putting the pay behind other agencies for technical workers. There are talks of cyber-excepted transition but it is slow moving, with no details. If you want to work from home and get paid what you are worth, look elsewhere.
