Pros

Durham in Rochester, MI. Is a decent place to work. They set you up with everything and work very hard to train you for the position. Management attempts to minimize issues and drivers are all pretty friendly. This can be an amazing place to work IF you are confident and very good at driving a bus.

Cons

While working for Durham (at least in rochester, Mi) do NOT take time off. They really react negatively to it. It seems a bit unprofessional, but they do get upset if you need to miss anything. They use a loose interpretation of incident. Be sure to cover your self. And while the people are nice, most if not all of them will sell you out in a heartbeat. Mistakes are met with mounting tension. And that's not mentioning the kids. Most of the Rochester kids are entitled, rude little snots whose privileged parents defend their poor actions to the last. If you keep your head down, show up every day before time, and keep quiet, you'll do ok. Also I'm not sure if it's a con but most everyone there is related to someone else there. There isn't really favoritism, but it is hard to break in to those cliques.

Unprofessional management - beware

Pros

PTO, BCBS healthcare, 401k, 10 paid holidays, occasional paid lunches, opportunities for growth if you are a "favorite" and want to drive a bus daily (even as a manager). The hourly bus driving staff made my job a pleasure. It was rewarding to work towards the goal of school transportation efficiency. The community and client were excellent to work with. I enjoyed my encounters with executive management and corporate staff.

Cons

High turnover and no investigation from upper management or HR. The management at my site was extremely unprofessional: could not write an appropriate email (poor grammar, poor spelling, no tact), "early Fridays" were allowed for select managers to go to the bar while bus routes were in full operation, micromanaging and harassment were daily occurrences toward those who were not part of the select "favorites", and the list can go on. I was very embarrassed to admit that I worked at this site under the leadership of this team. The gossip and openly sharing confidential employee information was absolutely shocking. Management had no backbone to discipline areas of operation that were in dire need of improvement. Instead, efforts were focused on petty nitpicking ("you were two minutes late today!") where we needed to focus on safety issues, client concerns, and hiring staff.
