Pros
Opportunity to earn… as long as your boss allows you to. People are very fun to hang with. Generally professional work environment.
Cons
Unfortunately, I drank the Kool-Aid and accepted the position at Aston Carter. They are *dying* for people to work for them. They are very desperate. Do you have a heartbeat? They’ll hire you. I should’ve realized this during my interview process. You will be told that commission is uncapped and you’re free to earn. But this was a lie. I was told that I’d come in earning commission, but instead, my “spread” was divvied up amongst other recruiters and account managers who were more senior within Aston Carter. Because I thought I was earning my own money, I worked hard hours over the weekend, late at night, etc. I placed a many, many candidates in several short weeks, and instead of seeing that commission, I was forced to give it away to other recruiters/AMs. That’s when I knew I’d have to step away from the company, unfortunately. Luckily, I found a job more than double my insultingly low base salary and left. You’ll be told you can make six figures… but how long will that take? How much work will you do for free?
