Pros

The people are the company’s greatest asset and many of which have become close friends.

CoverMyMeds used to be the best place to work but those days are over. I owe a lot to the old CoverMyMeds but that was due to incredible leadership who truly cared about its people and their career growth. Company all staffs used to focus on revenue growth, however, these days they’re focused on profit margins. Why is this slight nuance in language a big deal? Because when you stop focusing and investing in growth and instead focus on costs, the employees lose. A prime example of this are all of the posts regarding the significant cut to healthcare benefits. CoverMyMeds also gloats about being the best place to work for women in tech…until they have a baby. Yes, I said it. My manager tried to fire me while I was on maternity leave. A week before I was due back to return from maternity leave, which by the way, is an incredibly stressful time for new mothers, I was told that I was not allowed to return to my current role, team, nor business unit. I was completely shocked as my performance has never been an issue and in fact I had previously received a larger than average bonus due to my contributions. When I asked him why (of course it was a male manager) he said that he’d have to gather that for me. He had the gall to tell me that I wasn’t allowed to return to my role and wasn’t even prepared to explain why in the meeting that he setup! This, by the way, is completely illegal. I left the call flabbergasted and had no choice but to reach out directly to HR. HR agreed that this was illegal, reestablished my title, however, all of my responsibilities were stripped away. The male who took over my team while I was on maternity leave continued to manage my team; and I was now a manager who no longer had direct reports. HR claimed that they did what was required by law. HR nor my previous manager nor director apologized for what they did to me. I never was told why they did what they did. If it was performance, you would think that they would share that since they’re a company that touts 1:1s and their feedback loops. I should also mention that HR threatened me if I said anything about my situation to any of my friends at CoverMyMeds. The director who approved the decision to illegally rid me of my role while on maternity leave has since been promoted. Let that sink in. A company that raves about being the best place to work, specifically for women in technology promoted a director who tried to fire his employee while she was on maternity leave. Is this really the company you want to work for? If you’re not starting your career and are desperate to gain experience, I promise that you can do much better than CoverMyMeds.

As a mother myself, I know how challenging this time can be for parents, even at the best of times. The support our company provides our staff, including parents, encompasses support to help smooth the transition back into an individual’s role, flexible schedules, the use of adaptable PTO and more. We take seriously the concerns you raise in this review, just as we do the employee experience we create for all our staff. I’m personally familiar the situation described and believe that the way in which it was presented was not communicated as clearly as it could have been. We must balance the needs of a fast moving, high-growth company with available resources. As a valued employee, we believed we were giving you a comparable role to return to — a role where you had great opportunity to continue your projected growth and development while meeting your stated career goals. I apologize that the circumstances were not clearly positioned this way to you in initial conversation. We recognize the opportunity for better communication on all fronts, so for that thank you for raising your concerns. I regularly interact with parents as they are re-entering our workforce. They overwhelming describe a very positive experience and how they feel supported as they navigate working and having a family. I sincerely apologize that this was not your experience.
