Pros

-Temp positions are a great way for both you and the department to see if it's a good fit. -Once you're in the University system it's a lot easier to move around. *Note: there is talk of needing to be there for 6 months for that to really be the case, but obviously they strongly prefer hiring from within regardless of time spent. -It's a big institution with many places to move around, and each area could have a different vibe. -Check out the story behind their National Institute for Student Success. It's heart warming/impressive and makes you feel more proud to work there.

Cons

-No benefits for Temps. Just thoroughly read everything you can find about being a Temp so you're aware. -You can be let go at any time for no reason. -Higher Ed often houses employees who have 1) been in their "fish bowl" a long time and 2) have been trying to do a lot with little and/or varying money, so there can be a propensity toward fixed mindsets, sometimes bitterness, and sometimes lack of memory of what it was like to be new (i.e. things aren't thoroughly explained).
