Pros
The product is generally strong and has a great reputation. Most of the individual contributors at the organization are wonderful, talented people who have little to no access to advancement opportunities.
Cons
A significant population of employees has completely lost faith in the Executive Leadership Team. The first round of layoffs in April 2023 was botched completely. For a company that constantly praises itself as being "people first", offering 8 weeks of severance is shameful and pitiful. You're also not people first if, at the first sign of an economic shift, your knee jerk reaction is to lay off 125 people out of an 800 person company. No accountability was taken by the CEO, President, and other leaders for overhiring and poor planning. Instead, they blamed everything on the "evolving market conditions." When asked if leadership team members would be taking a pay cut, they vaguely answered that they wouldn't be taking their full bonuses but offered no additional details. The year that followed left employees anxious, burned out, and disillusioned. Despite its best efforts to communicate otherwise, Greenhouse has shown that, when push comes to shove, they are just like every corporation that prioritizes profit and executive bonuses over the livelihood of employees. No less than 2 weeks into 2024, a second layoff occurred. The CEO's presentation of the layoff completely lacked any modicum of respect and transparency. Again, he took zero accountability for the decision and blamed the market. A week later, the leadership team patted itself on the back for offering remaining employees 84.4% of their annual bonus. The "bonus" is built into everyone's compensation plan and makes up 5% of each employee's pay. That means if you sign an offer letter for $100,000, you will only earn $95,000 and the remaining $5,000 will only be paid if the company surpasses its financial goals. In this case, however, you would only get 84.4% of that $5,000 (before it's taxed at 60% of course). Given what employees sacrificed and were put through in 2023, could the company have not paid out that remaining 15.6%? I don't know what it's going to take to recover the culture at Greenhouse, but the behavior of leadership over the last year has completely severed trust with the remaining employees and it's unclear whether it can ever be recovered now that the President and CEO have shown their true colors.
