H&M Group suffers from a massive and growing tech debt that leadership continues to ignore. Most of the truly competent engineers and product professionals have long since quit. What remains is a toxic environment with high turnover, constant reorgs, and offshoring to low-cost labor with little support or development. HR has lost all credibility – pushing for full return to office while ignoring the real issues affecting teams. The workplace culture is rotten: political, cliquish, and increasingly hostile to anyone who questions leadership decisions. It’s not a psychologically safe environment – critics are marginalized, and mobbing or gaslighting tactics are not uncommon. Management focuses more on performative inclusivity (rainbow flags everywhere) than on building a healthy or respectful work culture. Meanwhile, senior leadership turnover is accelerating, with the former CEO quietly exiting amid internal drama.
