Knowledge Consulting Group

Part of MANTECH

Is this your company?

You will treated like a work horse. They also have a nice revolving door (people leave after a short amount of time). - Penetration Tester Knowledge Consulting Group Employee Review

Pros

Very technical. Collaborate training. Very competitive pay. You will work with some very knowledgeable people. If you like to travel, they will send you places.

Cons

Set people up to fail(They will not give you details on your project til the last minute). Will use your clearance to accomplish boring contracts. They do not really help you out when your in a jam on site. They do not train you on anything, expect you to lead without a company vision. Claiming travel related expenses are a hassle. They once made me walk 2 miles every day to a client site in order to save on a taxi. They do not invest in their people. They will encourage you to do presentations (articles, presentations) so they can have free advertisement from it. You will work on two projects at once all the time. The people that have been there a long time are bitter. The peer review process is a joke and not one like doing it.

I am sorry to hear this was your experience at KCG. We do listen to our employees and try to make recommended changes when we can. One of your “Cons” is our travel process, which was a complaint we heard often. We recently implemented a web-based expense and travel system which can be accessed from anywhere, including smartphones. This has streamlined the travel process and our employees have been pleased with the results. We also have a number of resources in place that you can reach out to if you are having challenges on the customer site. If this is the experience of anyone at KCG, I would encourage you to seek out assistance from your supervisor in these matters, particularly if you are feeling overworked. If you are not comfortable going to your direct manager, our HR team is also there to help. We want to be a place where everyone can flourish and grow no matter where they are in their career, and a company that will provide a comfortable work-life balance.

Pros

Depending on the business unit, there are some fantastic security professionals who worked at KCG while I was there. If you're looking to work with a great group of security engineers, some of the business units that work in the Reston office have great talent.

Cons

The KCG vision has been somewhat challenged in its implementation. The corporate structure is aligned as if KCG is a small IT staffing company. If the vision is to put more butts in more seats this year than last year, that structure may be fine. If the vision is more innovative, then the organizational structure needs work.
