Pros
Quickly teaches what you don't want
Cons
Working at the Library of Congress was the worst experience of my professional life. I would recommend avoiding the agency. Leadership at the executive level and all levels of management are ineffective. They are the walking definition of fraud, abuse, and waste. They act only when something negative appears in the Washington Post or there’s an IG report. Self-interest is the mission of the Library. All levels of management are dysfunctional and finger-pointing is commonplace. Management does not respond to feedback from people doing the work; when ultimately projects are not finished on time or are low quality, management covers for themselves and pushed the failure to employees. Senior Leadership has no interest in changing the culture of the institute and displays retaliator behavior including limiting bonuses and promotions. I have personally witnessed some of the worst behavior and violations of people’s rights. They publicly rejoice in making people miserable.
