Pros

Local HQ in Perrysburg has a small-town feel. Great location if you prefer more rural suburbs. Offices have adequate space. The plant jobs house some great, hard-working individuals that tend to truly care about the product they are producing. These plants are typically located in rural areas that maintain the surrounding community.

Cons

What used to be proud staple of Toledo, OH, O-I has become plagued by misguided executive decisions to keep its insignificant share price from falling further as its only product (glass bottles) slowly falls out of consumer favor. Layoffs and outsourcing have become the norm with no transparency from senior management as to what the end goal is. Job security at any level, even high upper management, simply does not exist as the c-suite continues to slash labor costs. As a result, employee morale is incredibly low with most folks concerned about what little jobs exist in the Toledo market. While local Toledo firms continue to expand, O-I seeks to cut and outsource. Career advancement has been stunted due to most middle-management jobs being eliminated. For those looking to start their careers here out of college, I would be VERY cautious.

Pros

*Better management than in some previous years. *Great and highly competent HR Generalist although she works between 2 plants. *Good maintenance support and troubleshooting from forklift mechanic. *Very supportive foremen in many areas, the younger ones are very engaged.

Cons

*If corporate had decided to keep this plant open, the full potential of this location could be realized and fleshed out. It may have been too little too late, anyway. I can see why they didn't since it has suffered under deferred maintenance and abuse by previous corporate policies and managers. *Retirement no longer offered. *Occasional coworker who is a walking legally defined hostile work environment among the work staff. *The current live-to-work schedule is deadly. It doesn't matter now that the Portland plant is closed but this would be liability where used in other locations. *Some managers have been split between 2 plants, what I call trying to squeeze juice out of raisins.
