When I was first hired I was told I would be working in my city of residence. They told me the area I live in is a GREAT place to be a sub. However, they only call me for areas that are too far from my home. I brought this concern up with Jordy when he sent me to a location I KNEW was too far (being born and raised here I know of an area is out of my reach.) he responded in a condescending tone and told me ALL the other subs go that far and I should have no problem doing that either. Feeling belittled, I took the assignment. Of course I was right and it took me almost two hours to get home, interfering with priceless family time with my children. I had to have someone pick my kids up for me. I again asked about subbing in my area and they responded "we actually don't serve that area because there's no charter schools" THEN WHY did you tell me I would be working in that city!? You baited and switched me to get me in Los Angeles. After talking with other scoot subs I found this is a common practice they do. BEWARE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO STAY CLOSE TO HOME. Also, charter schools run LONG days. Stick with the school districts if you're trying to sub. Another thing is these classrooms are COMPLETELY unmanageable, I've NEVER seen such horrendous behavior and I am a seasoned teacher. One more thing (notice how this list keeps going?) don't call subs when they are not working. I also don't appreciate getting emails saying make myself available as often as possible...if I wanted to be available as often as possible I never would've quit teaching full time to be placed in unmanageable classrooms only to be mentally and verbally abused by students.
