Pros

The people. A job, and ultimately a career is built by the people you work with, and SG has some of the most amazing people I have ever worked with or for. I am inspired by the hard work of my colleagues here who constantly challenge me to be my best. Everyone here is in a position to contribute beyond their job description, which (to me) makes every day interesting and keeps me motivated. Working with teams across the globe.

Cons

As an organization still very much in the entrepreneurial phase, prospective employees need to consider how much structure they need or are used to. While I personally thrive in less structured, more agile environments, it's not for everyone. We often have to roll up our sleeves and get work done that other, larger, companies often have big teams to assist with. But you have to like owning what you do every day, and knowing that your personal contributions are making a real difference every day. Time zone challenges, too, sometimes are tough to manage.

Pros

While the company provides stable bi-weekly pay, there are notable inconsistencies in HR operations. In some cases, clerical errors have led to payroll discrepancies that went unnoticed for extended periods. These issues highlight a lack of attention to detail within HR and overall process inefficiencies. If you value a well-structured and competent HR department, this may not be the best fit.

Cons

In my 13-year career as an Executive Assistant, this has been the most challenging workplace I’ve encountered. The company’s performance appraisal process lacks transparency, with many employees receiving misleading feedback about their skills and contributions. Around appraisal time, a significant portion of the workforce is placed on Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), and expectations frequently shift even when goals are met. HR appears to have limited knowledge of Massachusetts labor laws, leading to ongoing compliance issues. Employees are often pressured into signing HR documents that lack company branding and contain questionable claims. The workplace culture is heavily male-dominated, where women's voices are often dismissed, and dissenting opinions are silenced. Decision-making is not data-driven but rather guided by leadership’s subjective preferences. Additionally, professionalism within the organization is inconsistent. In one instance, I had to address inappropriate behavior involving an HR representative and a senior executive who was visibly uncomfortable. If you are seeking a company that values transparency, ethical leadership, and a supportive culture, this may not be the right fit.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We take feedback seriously and are committed to maintaining equitable, transparent, and compliant practices across all our locations. Our priority is to foster a respectful and inclusive workplace where everyone can grow and succeed. To clarify, employees are not placed on Performance Improvement Plans arbitrarily — these are used thoughtfully to support development when performance challenges arise. We continue to refine our processes to ensure clarity, consistency, and fairness, and we do not tolerate any form of misconduct.
