Pros

An opportunity to learn the complexities of sales tax.

Cons

100% annual staff turnover is the goal of the organization. It destroys its reputation and its solution to correct the matter is to change the name of the company. The CEO and his 8 - 12 cronies are getting rich, while their employees are barely earning enough to survive. The firm has a policy to hire low-level recent college graduates and long-term unemployed senior level staff. Hence, they are hired at below scale salaries. The successful senior level employees will work there for 1 - 3 years until they are brought into a conference room and told that their position no longer exists. It appears that management spaces out the elimination of those positions in a manner to avoid age discrimination laws. However, several former employees have approached the Department of Labor Relations.

I’m deeply affected by your negative perception of our senior leadership team. In our last engagement survey, employees agreed the company and, by extension, our leadership team operated with strong values and ethics. This result, based on anonymous feedback we collect from our employees, is a source of pride to me personally and the rest of the leadership team. Let me assure you high attrition is not an organizational goal. Quite the opposite. The leadership team sets goals each year for employee engagement as indicated by lower employee attrition. Our organization has grown from 170 employees to well over 1,000 employees in just a few years. I recognize our fast growth and the accompanying change is not easy on either our existing employees or those employees joining our organization by way of acquisition. Despite the challenges of a high growth and rapidly changing organization, I’m proud to celebrate the nearly 100 people passing long tenure milestones with our company in 2018. As for compensation, our salaries and benefits are regularly benchmarked to industry standards and for geographic location. We are diligent in this regard, which has led to a continuous stream of compensation increases, benefits improvements and other work life enhancements. As just one example, we have not increased health insurance premiums for 3 consecutive years despite average increases above 5% in the United States. Rest assured, we will continue to improve our total compensation and benefits package to assure we compete effectively for top talent in an increasingly competitive world. I feel badly that somewhere in all the change, we lost your personal engagement. Again, I’m deeply affected to think a former employee may carry this animosity towards the leadership team and the greater Sovos organization. We understand and openly acknowledge the Sovos work environment is not for everyone. We further acknowledge we have areas to improve and are proactively working to address them with the help of our valued team members. Let me assure you one of our overarching goals is to create a workplace where career-minded individuals come together to take on the unique challenges of a growing organization while advancing in their careers and thus improving their individual way of life. I remain personally committed to realizing this purpose - as does our entire leadership team. That’s the bottom line for all of us. - Andy

Thank you for sharing this, and welcome to the team! It's wonderful to hear that your recruiting experience set such a positive tone from the start. Cassie is a great example of the kind of Sovosians we are proud to have representing our culture, and knowing she made you feel informed and at ease throughout the process genuinely matters to us. We also love hearing that your first day onboarding helped you connect with our values and get a feel for what we do. That experience is something we work hard to get right, and your feedback confirms it's landing the way we intend. We're glad you're here, and we look forward to growing together. Pros

Being Remote and standard benefits

Cons

Sales leadership is horrendous. New people are brought in not trained, aggressive targets (that have never been hit) usually designed to be the escape goats to protect the old guard. Long tenured sales protects the existing power structures. When results slip, they blame newer reps. New hires don’t hit, quotas unrealistic, weak implementation. Nightmare of a company, the worst I have ever worked at.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. Feedback matters, even when we see things differently. Quota-setting and new hire ramp structures are areas we invest in seriously - they're because we want our sellers to win, not to set anyone up to fail. That's the culture we've built, and it's one I'm proud of. That said, I do hear that your experience hasn't matched that intent. If there are specific gaps in how you were onboarded or supported, I'd genuinely like to understand them so we can keep getting better. Please connect with HR or reach out to me directly. We're committed to building a team where every rep has a real shot at success! Alice Katwan, President of Revenue, Sovos
