Pros

When I first started at Victra, it was still A Wireless. At the time, it was a great company to work for. Everyone was great, and it felt like the company truly cared for its employees. Rich was amazing. The only pro left since George Sherman took over as CEO is the people in lower positions. Most of these people, however, have had their jobs eliminated or have been offered pitiful salaries and relocation packages for the Raleigh area. I'm sure some will see the fact that Victra was voted one of the best places to work. This is because the survey was not given to all employees. If the survey had been given to everyone who worked at Victra, it would have been a completely different outcome.

Cons

The cons here can truly create a book, but I will try to keep it as short as possible. One of the worst parts about Victra is the secrecy and disorganization. This has been an issue from the start, but it has gradually become worse. There are regular last minute changes, and you’re expected to make the impossible happen even when 3rd party timeframes have to be considered. Communication is something upper management apparently does not believe in, although they claim it is important. Information is withheld from employees until higher ups feel they need to know it. We used to be able to ask questions for the meetings, but they started choosing to only answer the questions that were meaningless. Most of the time, the questions that were answered seemed to be questions added by George or other executives. At least Rich was straight up with everyone when he was running the company. Pay and bonuses are pretty sad at Victra, especially when you compare it to other companies in same areas. George Sherman decided the company did not do well enough for Christmas bonuses last year. Instead, he authorized Shutterfly gift codes and a Google Home for Christmas. The Google Homes were likely free or discounted due to an earlier partnership at the Google pop-up stores. It was just a kick in the stomach after other promised bonuses were never given. We never saw raises last Spring either. This was supposedly due to an issue with a new system. However, we later found out about the relocation and restructuring, and this is likely the real reason raises were never given. There could be so much more here, but I will end my rant with the relocation to Raleigh. This is something we had been told would be happening gradually. At the last Christmas party (2017), George told us that the Greenville office wasn’t going anywhere for years to come. Just months later, in Spring, he admitted the truth. They plan to close the Greenville office by the end of the year. As I mentioned previously, some were actually offered jobs in Raleigh. The offers that were given were terrible for the Raleigh area, and those who were not provided an offer would receive a severance package equal to one month’s pay. Even if it was equal to three month’s pay, it’s not worth missing the chance on a new job just to hang in there until the company is done using you. The news about the relocation wasn’t bad enough, I guess. They started spamming social media with hashtags and lies about how good of a place it is to work, knowing they’re destroying people’s lives. The hardest part is when you see someone in HR at Victra posting about how they are looking to fill positions. Meanwhile, people are literally struggling to find a job because theirs is going away before the end of the year. There are also the posts about how companies should treat employees well. Actually, I find that one a bit ironic every time I see it from someone at Victra. To be fair, it’s not just HR that spams social media with this nonsense.

There are some good people who work there. Unfortunately there are a lot more who are not

Victra has no real concept of work-life balance. I heard multiple people in leadership refer to it as “work-life integration,” which felt less like a benefit and more like a warning label. As an experienced recruiter, I was brought in for a project that was poorly planned from a staffing standpoint from the beginning. It was surprising to learn that some of the leadership involved had no formal background in recruiting, staffing, or HR, despite making decisions that directly impacted those functions. The company often seemed to take a reactive approach to problems instead of building thoughtful, preventative strategies. I heard the phrase “building airplanes in the sky” used more than once, and unfortunately, that seemed to reflect the actual operating model: move fast, figure it out later, and let employees absorb the chaos. The culture felt heavily rooted in grind/hustle expectations, with little regard for sustainability or employee well-being. There are talented people there, but the leadership approach makes it difficult to feel supported, valued, or set up for long-term success.
