Pros
Decent benefit package, like most government jobs. Your job can be fairly secure if you can pass your probationary period. The cost of living in Yolo County is slightly more affordable than other places in California.
Cons
Departments are understaffed and workers are often doing the jobs of 2 or 3 people with some of the lowest compensation rates in the state for comparable positions. Managers are typically not supportive and there is little reward for employees who think creatively and try to improve their workplace and community. Human Resources and several departments were recently written up by the Grand Jury for questionable hiring practices. Each department has their own hiring and management practices and the rules seem to change depending on the day. Morale is low across the board which makes for a very unpleasant working environment. There is very little opportunity for advancement once you are in a position and most departments do nothing to develop a culture where employees can be promoted from within the organization.
