Pros

Overall Zoom is still a great company to work for, all things considered. Being able to work remote is such a blessing, and they are still wildly profitable and have great cash-flow even post-COVID. All of my teammates and people I worked with were amazing and we helped shape Zoom from only video conferencing into a true platform workspace oriented platform.

Cons

Career growth once you get your role is limited. You really have to go above and beyond to get promoted, so if you want to work 10+ hour days then that path to move up is there. However, I will say their compensation is fair to begin with so this isn't a super big issue.

It’s great to hear that you continue to view Zoom as a strong company, especially with the flexibility of remote work, solid financial foundation, and the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the platform beyond video conferencing. It’s also encouraging to hear such positive feedback about your teammates and the collaborative environment. We appreciate your perspective on career growth as well. Advancement and development opportunities are important parts of the employee experience, and your feedback highlights how expectations around progression can vary depending on role and workload. Thank you again for taking the time to share a balanced and thoughtful review during your time as a Zoomie. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors!

Pros

Native C++ client Bar is low for being a domain expert - knowledge the average Silicon Valley engineer should have is somehow in short supply there, so it's easier to stand out Pay was OK, while it lasted

Cons

Repeated rounds of layoffs, with departed colleagues' work being heaped on those remaining, left everyone miserable and stressed and just waiting for when our turn is next. My boss actually announced development was shifting to "startup mode", and when I asked if that means more upside or flexibility or equity or any of the other reasons you may choose a startup over a large established company, the answer was, "no, just more work" (!?!) Serious culture and power divide between overseas and California based development teams. Zero career growth investment in employees; no training or conferences except those offered by Zoom. Fired entire DEI team CEO attended Melania's movie premier
