Bad Leadership, Bad Everything

Pros

Many of the people on my team were amazing. There were some really fun, competent, and hard-working individuals in the Recruiting department. Unfortunately, leadership is really bad so no matter how talented the team was, it was nearly impossible to grow under such inadequate leaders. Most of the great people have unfortunately left at this point.

Cons

The pay is not great and unless you are one of the favored few, it's extremely difficult to see any sort of growth - both in position and pay. The main con in the Recruiting department is truly the leaders in place, starting all the way at the top. The VP of HR in general lacks compassion, understanding, and common decency. Other supervisors and managers in Recruiting are essentially just bad leaders. They are people that no one wants to follow. They don't instill trust and autonomy in their employees, they micromanage (one even had her whole team track every minute of the work they were doing on a joint spreadsheet for two weeks straight), they don't know how to help their employees grow and develop, and they refuse to recognize that any ongoing issues in the department may be their fault.

Pros

Some of the people are good to work with

Cons

If your a female forget it. Your ideas will be worthless until stolen and presented by a man. If your older forget it. You have value only if your young. Horrible office politics and department manager is demoralizing and is not manager material. favoritism. Plant workers are chewed up and spit out. Upper management completely out of touch. Says their a family company but I find that to be untrue. It just sounds good.

Pros

Location in West Michigan, beautiful building, decent compensation and benefits, very good work life balance, many nice people.

Cons

Too many people who have worked too long at Haworth (in many cases just Haworth) and they don't really know what world class is or looks like. Too many (including supervisors and above) seemingly just holding on for retirement not wanting to "rock" the boat but give lip service to trying to improve things.
