Pros

Glad to not be affiliated with this organization anymore. Years ago when the owner was still involved with the day to day operations it was a good place to work. Once he handed it over to Bruce King to run, that is when things changed.

Cons

Helmer treats their hourly employees poorly. Management acts like everyone is a family, but this is really not the case. They are a very top heavy company that rewards middle and upper management with a quarterly bonus. Hourly workers get an end of year bonus that never pays out until somewhere in the first quarter of the following year. This bonus is not even equivalent to a weeks pay after taxes. There is a lot of favoritism and nepotism within the company. They keep hiring expensive people when they are currently having financial issues and thinking that this will save them. They push people to get degrees and if someone does not want to go to school they are black balled. They are overly pushy on their donation and volunteering agenda. Production workers don't make a lot of money at Helmer, and they are always wanting for the employees to donate donate donate to various charities. They work people to the bone and when it comes to raises, they get pennies. The raises are based on reviews, and once again it is a matter of whether they like you. Not based on whether you do a good job. Overall not a good place of employment.

Thank you for your comments. We’re sorry that you did not have a positive experience working with us. With regards to base pay, we use market data to determine the pay for positions and raises are based on market data, competency in role, and performance. All employees are encouraged to continue their education through our Educational Assistance program; however, some job opportunities do have educational requirements. At Helmer, we foster a culture of generosity which may include volunteering time, talent, or donations; the employee can choose how to engage.

Pros

High entertainment value. If you enjoy watching unqualified people pretending their way through there job, this place is for you.

Cons

Quality is a joke. Management is laughable, they literally make up policy and rules as they go. HR is the worst I've seen, they are only a mechanism to destroy and eliminate employees that aren't buddies with management. No real standards. Unsafe work practices, OSHA should investigate. Hostile work environment. The CEO and his buddies throw their overt liberal agenda down your throat. Anyone with Christian or conservative values is run off in short order. LGBT values are promoted and overtly shoved in your face constantly. CEO pretends to be an engineer. There is a lot of "pretend"-gineering going on. Management is like a college faternity, and spend their days hiding in conference rooms laughing the day away conspiring about how to fire someone they don't like. They like to promote and hire their unqualified friends and then pretend they are doing an amazing job, especially if they are LGBT. I have never seen so many bad decisions made. Even if you gave a monkey a quarter to flip, heads or tails, you would have better luck.

Pros

None that I can think of Close to I-69

Cons

Management don’t care about employees They talk too much about helping the community but they do do much for the employees. If you are good friend of management you have your job secure, otherwise you can loose your job over nothing They are a small company and a lot of the people that work there don’t know how to handle change and growth putting a lot of barriers for improvement as they would always say...”this is how we have always done it” No growth opportunity unless you have a friend in a management position Low pay People is very false and hypocrite No recognition of what you do and achieve for the company The list goes on and on
