Pros

The government has excellent health Insurance. There was a great 401K, which I transferred to my personal Financial Advisor. There was plenty of O.T. offered, plus a night shift differential. We did have a Union, however they were of little help. I received an email from the Union a MONTH after I'd resigned. I informed him I already resigned. The Union was very difficult to get in contact with.

Cons

I worked the night shift; 6:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. I was trained to work in SCRIPS and ISRP departments. I didn't have issues with most of my co-workers. There were co-workers that had worked there for several years. They would meet their quota for the night and then just sit around and talk, or were away from their desks. When I first started working Covid had struck. My first manager and I got along fairly well. Not so much for the second manager. Everything was fine at first, however the last 4 months were miserable. She would call me out on simple issues in front of the department. After two of these incidents, I would say get back with me after lunch and that these were issues that should be discussed in private. She also called out people who she considered inferior to herself. I told these people to stand up for themselves......they were too afraid. During this time we were spaced apart. ISRP was put in a department on the 2nd floor. One time my immediate supervisor came to my cubicle and was wearing shorts that no self respecting woman or man should wear. I told her let's talk about the issue another day, that I was really stressing on the particular transcribing I was doing, just so I didn't have to look at her outfit. Her initials were E.L.T. and her pic in email was a black cougar.........nuff said. I resigned on my 2nd anniversary of working there. (One should make sure they resign properly). I sent emails to all the higher ups informing them of the conditions we all were working under.

Pros

Time off. Retirement if you work long enough.

Cons

Low-grade employees are shuffled around the building (sometimes several times a day), and expected to do multiple jobs WITHOUT REAL TRAINING, and if you don’t understand the tasks or ask for more training, you’re told by managers that you’re being “defiant” and written up. They were recently cited by the EEOC for denying a Reasonable Accommodation to a disabled employee. Managers don’t know anything about being a manager, they play favorites and if they don’t like you, your work life will be miserable. The water is frequently shut off or various problems, mandatory overtime is enforced even if you have a doctor’s note, and some employees are known to be away from their desks for hours to avoid work. There’s a reason why they have these large Hiring Fairs, it’s because long-time employees (I worked there a long time until I just couldn’t take it anymore) are leaving in droves. Do yourself a favor and work anywhere else.
