Pros

-Unlimited PTO -401k Matching -Health insurance, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents -Phone & Internet Reimbursement -Remote options -Basic product (it's literally just a basic HTML website)

Cons

-Very low Pay, no stock options -Not a tech company in any capacity (nothing is automated - all manual processes) -Dev team is 95% contractors overseas who don't care about the architectural design and implement subpar code, which leads to major performance issues -There's 5 staging environments, half of which are broken & are constantly overwriting each other -Lack of trust in their FTE base (everything is gated - tech team doesn't have access to tools to do their basic job) -Zero organization (teams do not communicate with each other/decisions do not consider the downstream impact) -Very meeting heavy & rely too heavily on Slack -Not a mission driven company/not customer focused -Terrible leadership -Promotions are more of a popularity contest, not performance based -Non-collaborative work environment, innovative ideas are not encouraged, leadership is stuck in their ways -Weak strategy and product positioning that changes year to year -The company is not profitable (not signing deals, cutting millions in budget)

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re disappointed you had a negative experience but appreciate you pointing out some of our best-in-class employee benefits. InStride has grown by leaps and bounds in the last three years and as you found, many of our systems and processes are still being built and refined. We hope that provides an opportunity for InStriders to feel ownership of something, and recognize that it can be a challenging environment in which to work. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to better support our employees and help them develop.

Great Mission, Not-so-great company

Pros

Incredibly smart, talented individuals here all committed to the inspiring mission

Cons

The employee burnout here is absolutely real. Many join because it looks good on paper, but many have left and will continue to do so because it's chaotic and toxic under the hood. Everyone is super smart, dedicated, passionate to deliver but it almost feels like you're running on a hampster wheel, expected to join marathon, back to back meetings, work crazy hours, have vicious and non-productive feedback loops that make you question your expertise, lack of direction, where you're expected to sell solutions that solve D&I challenges, and yet the company itself doesn't dedicate or devote enough to the cause internally.

Thank you for your review. We are disheartened to hear that this was your experience. We take your comments very seriously. From the inception of InStride, our leadership team has worked very hard to instill a culture of inclusivity, equity, and transparency, starting with the Founder’s Memo. We support this vision by implementing tools and processes to strengthen feedback loops and train managers, including our weekly company-wide “Connect” meetings, our InStrider Engagement Survey, and our performance management tools that help us stay aligned on goals. And although we work hard, we hope and expect employees to maintain a meaningful work-life balance. Please don’t hesitate to also reach out with more details; we’d love to hear from you: Feedback@InStride.com.

Strong performance not always rewarded

Pros

Innovative industry and coworkers Meaningful work that contributes positively to the world

Cons

Leadership requires that promotions can only given with strong individual performance and a demonstrated business need, but the criteria for a business need are not shared. Employees with similar roles and less tenure may be promoted, while others who receive strong reviews are not, without clear rationale. Concerns about promotion fairness have been raised internally, but leadership has not addressed them meaningfully.
