Homogeneous Workforce with poor work/life balance

Pros

Interstates truly does have employees who care a lot about each other and the success of the business.

Cons

The expectation at Interstates is to work 50+ hours a week for a salary that is not competitive with the industry. A quick walk through of the office and it will become clear that almost everyone there is a middle class white man with little to no exceptions. Although this is a public company upper management (and coworkers) push their religious beliefs on every employee. This has led to many uncomfortable meetings and events.

Employees Have Better Options

Pros

Flexible work environment. Entrepreneurial culture that embraces pursing a better way to deliver value to clients. Extreme dedication to serving and making a difference for clients. Open environment to provide positive and negative feedback.

Cons

The focus or "why" of Interstates Control Systems is to deliver for their clients and drive high returns to capital for the shareholders. Employees are neither the focus nor part of the "why". This manifests itself in a variety of ways including lagging employee salaries, long work hours, stingy vacation benefits, etc. In short, life is pretty good if you are a client or shareholder of Interstates Control Systems but for the average employee you can do better.

Pros

If you want to live in Sioux Center and are an engineer, this is about your only option.

Cons

Absolutely terrible work/life balance. I watched as people with newborn children at home worked from 6am to 5pm went home for supper then came back from 6pm to 9pm. They require you to work 45hrs minimum. With no overtime pay and a bonus at the end of the year that probably doesn't even work out to minimum wage with all of the extra hours worked. Compensation was absolutely atrocious, the lowest of any company I've heard of at similar positions. All of your tasks are tracked at 15 minute intervals so you better work quickly. The culture here was terrible, I've never seen a work environment with so many people throwing each other under the bus so much this was not a team environment at all you were on your own and better defend for yourself.
