Pros

Work colleagues up to the team lead level all bonded together becuase of the gallows-humor conditions near the end of the month.

Cons

Had I read the Engineer-titled reviews on this site I would not have accepted this position. Depending on the department you join, you will be given a multitude of projects that were worked on by frustrated engineers who left the company because they couldn’t take it anymore. You will be berated by management and the clients for not delivering upon impossible expectations. A lot of the engineers who stay regularly put in 15 - 20 hours of unpaid overtime near the end of the month, including weekends. If this is your first entry-level job outside of college in engineering you will be thrown into the water and told to sink or swim. Most drown and leave burned out. Ironically, this is a great first job out of college to see what your strengths and weaknesses are; very tight deadlines, multitasking projects with little to no prior documentation, and hitting billing requirements is the name of the game here. Communication across departments is very poor and almost nobody in a senior position above the team lead level communicates with the engineers and technicians. Turnover for engineers is among the highest I’ve ever heard of for a US company. My division was comprised of 80% whom were there less than a year. This led to a lack of understanding the business processes - there is no training here - and meant clients were starting to jump ship because of subpar results. For an industry that relies on experienced, trained engineers to make sure our society’s products are safe and reliable, this company, in my opinion, cannot deliver on the whole. The engineers who do stay longer than a year or two are some of the brightest people I’ve worked with, but they are the minority in this company. I will always look at the ETL mark on products I buy differently from my time here.
