A Sober Warning

Pros

-Casual work dress code -Downtown location for the Minneapolis office -Growing CPG category (although the category is growing faster than Jack Link's)

Cons

-Some of the newer leaders are passable in certain situations, but the entrenched decision makers are aggressively hopelessly inept and objectively awful -The culture of extremely high arrogance coupled with extremely low intelligence starts at the top and permeates down -Workplace culture is toxic with verbal abuse, multiple "-ism's," ethical/oversight lapses, sexual harassment (yes, you read that right), etc. not only regularly tolerated, but at times encouraged

Pros

Free food Fun Parties Relaxed dress code

Cons

If you are considering a job at Jack Links here are 10 things I wish I had known- 1. Travel is part of the culture. Even when it is unnecessary. 2. If you work hard for 8 hours then go home, you are looked at as lazy compared to someone who is on site for 10-12 hours but doesn't really do any work. 3. Vulgar language directed at individuals is common. 4. No working from home. Yet some people can? If you have friends in high places. You are untouchable. 5. Excel is used for most things. Any attempt to improve software will be denied. 6. There is a desire for change which is great. What is not great is when you offer a path for the change there is huge push back. 7. Jack Link's is very comfortable taking risk. 8. If it comes between data and money. Money will win. 9. New grads be cautious. Starting your career here means you risk a black mark on your resume. 10. There is the weird 50's vibe to the place. Basically, I wouldn't want to be a woman at this company. I also wouldn't want my spouse working at this company if they were a director or higher.

Great brand; bad company

Pros

Hip, cool brand with cool office space in DT Minneapolis. Great history and story to tell.

Cons

Very poor leadership/management talent - VERY poor. Company is still being run by the Link family and they're in over their head. Ownership and upper level leadership team consists of a bunch of middle-aged, white, straight men. This isn't a culture where women are welcomed and if you happen to be gay and/or a person of color, this isn't a place you're going to feel comfortable. Lot's of odd chest-thumping and grunting type behavior when something goes well and not at all uncommon to hear yelling and F-bombs flying out of closed-door conference rooms when something doesn't go well.
