Pros

Pay is decent. Office is so, so - run down warehouse in the Mission with plans to move to the Dogpatch. I joined the company thinking we were doing something good by giving people an alternative to smoking the old-fashioned way. They hook you by saying their mission is to ONLY convert existing smokers and not market to people who have never smoked/vaped before. It's a lie. All the conversations around the office revolve around how they can get more and more NEW users to take up vaping. "How can we make our product more appealing to the female demographic?" "How can we build on the cool-factor for a younger demographic?" Maybe I was naive in thinking that we are doing something good - don't fool yourself, JUUL is the new Philip Morris. Business model is built on getting new people to get addicted to an unhealthy habit.

Cons

Long days. Take a lot of work home.

We’re sorry and surprised to hear that our company has been viewed this way by an employee, particularly as our mission could not be more different from this statement. JUUL Labs’ mission is to eliminate combustible cigarettes. We were founded to serve existing adult smokers, and do not want to initiate anyone in the use of nicotine products. JUUL Labs’ has many ongoing initiatives to ensure that our products are represented responsibly by the our company, management and employees. We want all of our employees to be invested in these efforts. We communicate our mission and values regularly to our employees. We will continue to work hard to ensure everyone who works at JUUL understands our company’s priorities and encourage everyone to question and propose ideas that can help us achieve our goals. The 1 billion smokers worldwide deserve a true alternative to combustible cigarettes, and we remain focused on our mission to serve them.

Pros

I joined JUUL because I fully believe in its mission to promote health in existing adult cigarette smokes by providing a healthier alternative. During interviews, everyone was warm and welcoming. I felt encouraged and like my thoughts and ideas would be heard and appreciated. When i received the offer, accepted with excitement. The on-boarding experience was as organized as it could be given the 46 other new-hires starting on the same day as me. We got some awesome swag, heard from heads of various departments, and had the opportunity to ask any questions. Since my start date, I’ve enjoyed the healthy catered lunches provided every day. We were all given the newest technology needed to accomplish our jobs, and the IT desk is happy to hand out whatever else you may need. Our desks are comfortable, tons of snacks and coffee around the office, and an all-in-all functional work environment. Pay is competitive and fair. Full benefits, 401K, bonuses, transportation stipend...all the good stuff.

Cons

There is a divide between “long-term” employees (people who have been there 4+ months) and new employees that feels gossipy and catty. The long-term employees discuss things behind the scenes, and then put on a fake smile when they’re around everyone else. There is a competitiveness around the office that makes it feel like your own team will find a reason to backstab you just for the fun of it. I have never been in a company where I literally feel like I cannot trust the people I sit with each and every day. There are toxic people who are only out for their own promotion and don’t care who they tear down in the process. For a mission for driven company, I am appalled by the lack of teamwork and togetherness around the office on a day to day basis.

Pros

- Everyone I have met has a shared commitment to the mission, and works hard towards achieving it. There is an authenticity that I haven't found in other places. - We created a new category so we have a lot of unique problems to solve for that you wouldn't get exposure to otherwise. the work is challenging and each day is different. - Growth prospects are incredible. I've been here a few months and have had the opportunity to build a team and function from the ground up. With the pace at which we are moving, scope will only increase. - I'm getting paid well and the benefits here are top of the line. - Things move fast, you don't have to wait weeks for an approval or to get the ball rolling. If it drives the business forward, you're empowered to move swiftly. - We have an awesome leadership team. Kevin keeps everyone informed about what is happening and I that he and the e-team are making the right calls for us. It is clear that they care and want to do right by us.

Cons

Work life balance is definitely challenging here. It's not really an issue because I love what I do and I knew what I was getting into. Putting it out there though because if you're looking for a 9-5 JUUL is not the right fit for you. We definitely have some dead weight - some of the folks who we have hired may have been a fit for us when we were growing from 200-500 people, but they can't keep up now and are more challenging to work with than is necessary. Leadership needs to start making tough decisions in service of scalability.

Thanks for acknowledging we are a rapidly growing company — that effort often comes with long hours. We encourage employees to make the most of their PTO and other benefits to help provide greater balance. Additionally, we are working on additional wellness efforts. That being said, we recognize that the speed with which we move is definitely not for everyone and that’s ok.
