Pros

Decent office Reasonable Salary Potentially interesting work For all the effort to be a great, employee friendly company - keep in mind that this is first and foremost a marketing company. The image of employee friendliness is really just marketing.

Cons

Ungodly turnover Little emphasis on best practices Incredible micromanagement This is not a technology company. It is a sales and marketing company. This company makes awful software and relies on sales and marketing to make financial institutions happy with the crap they actually paid for. For all the lip service given to being an employee friendly place and the so called "patch values", it is run by a bunch of marketing bros who really have no idea what they are doing in tech. As such, they get anxious and micro manage everything. An emphasis is placed on being fast and showing "business value" but all that gets built are facades that look like they work, but are built on worst practices and lots of manual intervention. The turnover is absolutely unbelievable and there is little chance for advancement as the upper positions are all filled by a tight knit group of bros who have been friends with the CEO since high school.

Pros

Good co-workers, nice office, good snacks.

Favoritism, lack of process, poor leadership, no strategic focus and upper-management is full of bad human beings.

Dear Spartan, Although I am pleased you took time to share your thoughts, I am sorry you are not having an optimal employment experience. No one can improve unless someone is willing to share critical feedback, so thanks for doing so. As you know, Kasasa is a Top 5 Best Places to Work in Austin, and a Top 50 in the US, according to American Banker. In addition to superb products and services, what allowed us to receive such accolades are our Patch Values, one of which is Love (love your colleagues, your company, your clients and their consumers). Although we strive to hold everyone behaviorally accountable to these values, we do hire a cross section of America, and no one is perfect. If your interactions with a couple of people have been negative, I understand. If your experience with all leaders is negative, we probably need to spend some time together discussing your concerns. Feel free to set up some time to confidentially speak with me about the specifics and ideas on how we can addresss your concerns. If you have attended any of our Town Halls or Summit of Peers, am I confident you have heard from Gabe (our CEO) about the importance of our Spartans. We cannot accomplish anything without the Phalanx working as one! Although we never claim to be as strong as our weakest link (we are stronger), everyone is important. Your experience and high level of performance is important, and our value of 5 Star Leadership ask you to challenge anyone or anything that prevents you from accomplishing your goals. If the items you have mentioned bothered you enough for you to share in this forum, I would hope we could meet to discuss ways of addressing your concerns. Lastly, I hope you have seen improvements during your tenure over the last three years. To continue making improvments will require all of us to say something if we see something disallowing us from hitting our goals (a closed mouth is never fed). To that end, I encourage and welcome your confidential feedback. Wishing you a better experience, Milton J. Perkins VP, Human Resources

Sadly, a sinking ship

Pros

1. The people by and large are very kind and helpful. 2. Before going fully remote, the office was a very fun environment. Lots of activities to get to know your team mates and other departments. 3. the Love Fund is genuinely one of the best things I've seen a company do. Shows that the company does care about the employees as people, not just workers. 4. Mission to help small financial institutions does feel like you are helping a worthy cause. 5. Fully remote workforce

Cons

Unfortunately, the trajectory of the company has gone quite downhill since 2019, and the pandemic only accelerated that. Mass layoffs in early 2021 were the sign of how bad things really had gotten. Morale has plummeted as a result. Since then there has been a mad dash to the exits, as people are seeing the writing on the wall. This has led to a massive brain drain as many of the folks with institutional knowledge have left for greener pastures. The compensation has always been bad for Austin, and has only gotten less competitive as Austin has gotten considerably more expensive. Roles have the same starting comp now as they did in 2017. Raises are very few and far between, and when you get them they are small. Cut 401k match for over a year. How can you hope to attract and retain talent when you are so under market value? Outside of Reward Checking, the products have simply not hit. Kasasa Loans, while a good idea, has simply not had much traction since being launched 4 years ago. The push to throw something out quickly has meant that good ideas have failed multiple times. There is never the thought to take the time to make things work. There doesn't seem to be any learning from mistakes, just keep throwing things out half baked. All of this is to say that I feel like the fate of Kasasa is to just slowly fade out of relevance and be sold to a competitor. It's a shame, because at one point the outlook was much brighter.
