Be ready for flexibility, sudden changes, and a lot of learning/re-learning. Operations and procedures could change after you've spent time learning how to do something one way. It's disheartening to finally feel comfortable with something knowing it works and have it trashed the next day. Upper management had the first and final say in running the lab, but they weren't there enough to see how we, as employees, operated. They seemed focused on number targets instead of accuracy.
