A once excellent company that is tanking hard and fast

Pros

The individual contributors on my team were excellent and, for many years, the quality of coworkers was high. benefits are decent. The stated mission is great and customers are amazing organizations. Remote work was good.

Cons

Leadership has lost the plot. In particular, all things HR are handled with toxic levels of secrecy and incompetence stemming from the top. The return-to-office debacle was the perfect example of how poor handling of a situation spawned low morale, confusion, and resentment. Recent multiple rounds of layoffs were terribly communicated (or not at all), so the rumor mills ran rampant. It took days to figure out exactly who had been cut and nothing was communicated about who was taking over their work. Many truly excellent Directors, Managers, and ICs were laid off while many that remained as well as leadership-level folks have toxic personalities, are all show and no substance, or are completely incompetent. The core values sound great, but are no longer lived up to, with "Healthy Debate" being the most laughable one given how scared people are to speak up. Those, at all levels, who do raise concerns or have opinions contrary to leadership are quickly dispatched. Yes-men and yes-women are the ones that remain. New initiatives are constantly announced with great hype, teams work on them above and beyond their regular work, and then they quietly fade away, never having been truly implemented or utilized. Then the cycle starts again.

Poor Leadership Leads to Layoffs

Pros

The individual contributors and direct managers are amazing, dedicated, and want to improve. Some employee benefits (I.e the new coffee shop) are nice to have and has made the transition back to the office better.

Cons

Executive board and VP’s have made such shortsighted decisions and set financial expectations outrageously high in their pursuit of a new company vision - despite the fact that the many steps towards that vision are far from ready. Not only has this led to a sharp decline in morale and routine failure of individual contributors to hit their goals, but it has recently led to a sizable layoff of incredible folks across the business. These cuts make little sense as the impacted employees were not involved in the leadership failures.

Leadership is either TOXIC or INEPT or a combo of both

Pros

Free snacks? Unlimited PTO? Decent benefits? I'd say the IC's but they get rid of the good ones pretty quickly since they usually identify the problems pretty fast and don't like that very much.

Cons

Poor pay. One of their responses to a review indicated that they take into account exit interview feedback. That is not true because the exit interview is basically a list of how to return your equipment and leave the company. The leadership here is AWFUL. They bring in different consultants when they feel the heat from headquarters so they can place blame elsewhere and get rid of the ICs that actually do the work. The head of the People Team is probably one of the most TOXIC and HEARTLESS c-suite level executives I've ever seen. The c-suite head of product is all histrionics and absolutely zero substance. He brings in consultants to mask his total inability to do the job. If you get a job offer here, take it to keep you going until you find someplace better but don't stop looking. You won't want to be here long.
